Adam Gabel Obituary


Adam Gabel, 38, of Akron, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars.


Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 23, 2024, at St. John Lutheran Church – Preston Township, rural Akron, Iowa. Reverend Trish Underberg will officiate. Burial will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery – Preston Township, rural Akron. Visitation with the family present will be from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron. There will be a Prayer Service with Memory Sharing at 5:00 p.m. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. on Monday at the church. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com. 


In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials can be made to the family.


Adam Lee Gabel, the son of Ernest ‘Ernie’ and Debra ‘Deb’ (Van Wyk) Gabel, was born on March 8, 1986, in Hawarden, Iowa. He grew up on the Gabel Family Farm in Preston Township, rural Akron, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church – Preston Township. He attended school in Akron and graduated from Akron-Westfield High School in 2004. Following high school, he went to work for Wells in Le Mars. In 2007, he began working the land of Gabel Family Farms continuing the one hundred year plus legacy in Plymouth County. For the past few months, Adam drove truck for Dragstra Brothers Trucking. 


He was united in marriage to Haylee Kratochvil on August 9, 2008, at St. John Lutheran Church – Preston Township. They were blessed with 3 children, their twins, Rahlyn and Brystol, and Ellyson. 


Adam was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church. He loved the farm life. He also enjoyed tractor pulling. He participated in many tractor pulls as a member of the Stateline Mafia Tractor Pulling Team. He loved spending time with family and friends where he was always the life of the party. His children were his greatest joy. 


Survivors include his wife, Haylee of Akron; his children, Rahlyn, Brystol, and Ellyson, all at home; his parents, Ernie and Deb Gabel of Akron; his sister: Melanie (Matt) Hall of Sioux City, IA, his sister: Melea (Luke) Nielsen of Akron; his nieces and nephews: Laura (Jesse) Tentinger and their children, Charlie and Jameson; Brandon (Jerrica) Tentinger and their children, Colt and Elsie Mae; Brett Tentinger; Megan Tentinger; Natalie Nielsen and Kasey Nielsen, all of Akron; his father in law, Richard Kratochvil of Hawarden, IA; his mother in law, Debra Kratochvil of Hawarden, IA; his brother in law, Dustin (Beth) Kratochvil of Springdale, AR, and their children, Samuel and Sarah; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.  


He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Eldon and Viola Gabel; his maternal grandparents, Dick and Alice Van Wyk; and his brothers in law, Travis Tentinger and Tyler Kratochvil.
