Luther Charles Washington was born on October 25, 1957, in Hope, Arkansas, to the late Maurice (Bowles) Washington and Doylon Washington Sr. Known for his warmth and joyful spirit, Luther was a natural people person who loved meeting new faces and sharing stories. He cherished the simple pleasures in life, including spending time with family and friends, listening to music, dancing, playing dominoes, fishing, hunting, and enjoying the beauty of nature.
Luther accepted Christ early in life as a member of Washington Temple C.O.G.I.C. in Hope. He graduated from Hope High School in 1976 and went on to earn his welding certificate from Red River Votec. Over the years, he worked for TexArk Joist and Hudson Foods until his health declined.
On his life’s journey, Luther met and married his soulmate, Carolyn Jean Shaw. They were united in marriage on July 13, 1981, sharing 42 wonderful years together until Carolyn’s passing in 2019.
On Wednesday, October 30, 2024, Luther departed this life at his home. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn; his mother, Maurice, and father, Doylon Sr.; brothers Norman and Charlie Washington, Jackie Logan; and sister, Roberta Hurn.
Luther leaves behind cherished memories with his family, including three stepchildren: Lorna Arbee of Kansas City, KS; Antonio Shaw (Jollean) of Bellingham, WA; and Leia Jackson of Hope, AR; a godson, Joshua Washington of Bonner Springs, KS; three brothers: James Charles Stuart of Stamps, AR, Doylon Washington Jr. (Dana) and Micheal Logan (Carolyn) of Hope, AR; six sisters: Vivian Dudley (Smith) of Raymore, MO; Vetresia and Shasmakeila Washington of Bonner Springs, KS; Keisha Washington of Kansas City, KS; Teresa Johnson and Linda Hill (Darrion) of Hope, AR; his brother-in-law Calvin Shaw and sister-in-law Paula Washington of Hope, AR; special uncle, Prentis Bowles Sr. of Edwardsville, KS; four aunts, Marie Gosha, Versie Cunningham, Hazel Washington, and Juanita Webster. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including his special friend, Betty Williams, and close friends, Curtis Spencer and Chucky Davis.
Luther’s kindness, joy for life, and love for others will be missed and forever remembered.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held in Luther's honor on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Brandon’s Mortuary in Hope, Arkansas and will be live streamed from Brandon's Mortuary Facebook Page. A visitation will be held at Brandon's Mortuary on Friday, November 8, 2024, from 2:00 - 5:00 P. M. Following the service, Luther will be laid to rest at Scott’s Memorial Cemetery in the Perrytown Community of Hope. Friends and family are invited to sign his online guestbook below.
