Terry Melvin Vote July 22, 1951 - July 17, 2024 Terry Melvin Vote, age 72, of Egeland, North Dakota passed away peacefully at his home on July 17, 2024. A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Friday, August 9. 2024 at 6:00 p.m. at the Pole Barn on Range Road, 413 Range St., in Egeland, ND. Signs will also be posted on the roads to guide you. Burial will be at the Union Cemetery in Egeland, ND.
Terry was born on July 22, 1951 to Harry and Delores Vote (Berginski) in Cando, ND. He attended Crocus Country School through the second grade, walking the railroad tracks to and from with his sister every day, sunny or stormy. The family then moved to St. John, and he attended school there until the fifth grade, moving back to the Crocus area and attending Egeland Public School until graduating from there in May 1969.
After high school graduation, Terry worked for Danny Broderick moving houses. Besides grading roads later in life, moving houses was his favorite job simply because he was working with his dear uncles, Sonny and Pete Berginski. In between these two jobs, he worked at the fertilizer plant in Sarles, he was the janitor at the Egeland School, owned the Hartz Grocery Store in Egeland and farmed for a short time.
Terry married Wendy Hagler on October 13, 1984 and to this union was born three children, Jesse Vote, Cando, ND, Megan Vote, Bismarck, ND and Kodie Vote, Cando ND. He later married Tamme Lachance from Alberta, Canada on August 5, 2006. They made their home in Egeland until Terry's death. Whether it was making hay for the horses or a day shopping in Devils Lake, you always found the two together.
Anyone who knew Terry knew his love of horses. Since he was old enough to climb the neck of a horse while the horse grazed, he rode, broke and showed the horses that he trained for various events. His greatest accomplishment was qualifying for the Reining Class at the World Quarter Horse Show held in Amarillo, Texas. He and Tamme worked together side by side and tended to their horses every day. In addition to horses, Terry was a meticulous wood worker. He made many guns cabinets for family and friends and everyone in the family had a nativity manger. He loved to bowl and was an avid pool player winning many tournaments. Terry always had visions of bagging the "30-point buck" and loved small and big game hunting every fall. His best friends were made while playing softball for Egeland. You could always count on Terry for a home run.
Terry is survived by his wife, Tamme, his children Jesse (Jill), Megan (Garett Lien) and Kodie Vote, his stepchildren, Dale and Jasen Lachance, his sister, Judy Halverson, Cando, sister-in-law's, Carolee Vote, Kay (Ray) Frey, and Lindi (Dave) Weibe, brother-in-law's, Mark and Bruce (Terry) Hutton, nephews, Cameron and Preston (Heidi) Halverson and Hunter Vote, niece, Alayna Vote, grandson, Hudson, step grandchildren, Darian, Keagan and Jaylyn, one aunt, Joy Berginski and several cousins.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Delores Vote, sister, Lynn Blake, brother, Daryl Vote, brother-in-law, Stanley Halverson, one great niece, Brynn Halverson, father and mother-in-law, Thomas and Herbertta Hutton and one brother-in-law, Tom Hutton.

Terry was a very generous person. He would let me use his tools if i needed to do a repair on my house. He would say, “My truck is by the town shop just go and grab what you need. “
He would also stop over to see if i needed any help. For the limited time i spent in Egeland while hunting ducks, I always knew Terry would be a person i could go to for help. My condolences to Tamme and her family.
