Becky Jo Haselton
Becky Jo Haselton, 72, of Sycamore, IL, passed away after a series of illnesses on March 26, 2026, at Ascension St. Alexius Hospital in Hoffman Estates, IL. She was born in Rochelle, IL, to Glen and Barb (Auldridge) Headon, the first of their two girls together. Becky also has a half-sister from her mother's second marriage.
Becky graduated from Rochelle Township High School in 1971 and married James "Jim" Haselton, also from Rochelle, the same year. She pursued a career in nursing, graduating from Kishwaukee College with her nursing degree, followed by a BS degree in nursing from NIU in DeKalb. After working as an RN for a number of years, Becky took an interest in information systems and was a pioneer in the field of nursing informatics, co-editing an award-winning book called "The Systems Challenge." Additionally, Becky took graduate courses at the U of I in Rockford and at NIU. She worked at Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb, then at Sherman Hospital in Elgin. Following 30 years working in hospitals, she worked for 8 years at NIU doing IT support for the student housing administration before retiring in the fall of 2013.
Becky had numerous hobbies over the years; notable among them were playing D&D with friends, which transitioned into online computer games. And there was always cooking; she loved to try new recipes. Since her retirement, she especially enjoyed spending time with dear friends. Every Saturday night, her son Nick came over for dinner, and they would spend time talking, often about the current game they were playing or about Nick's work since he also worked in IT at a large hospital. And on special occasions they enjoyed Becky's famous homemade pizza. Becky was also an Eckist for 50 years, that is a member of Eckankar, the Path of Spiritual Freedom. The precepts of this faith and her personal experiences which verified to her satisfaction the truth of these tenets guided her throughout her adult life.
Becky is survived by her husband of 54 years; one sister, Lisa DeGrande of Ft. Meyers, FL; a brother-in-law, John Haselton of Rochelle; and cousins, nieces, and nephews and their families. Her only child, her son, Nicholas Haselton predeceased her in August of 2024. She was also predeceased by her parents and one sister, Carol.
Cremation care provided by Butala Funeral Home in Sycamore, IL. A celebration of life is being planned for a future date.
