Mary Sussman Obituary

Mary Anita Sussman, known by many as Mimi or Muffin passed away on October 7th surrounded by family and friends. Mimi fought a long and courageous battle against cancer and her fearlessness and faith never subsided.

Mary grew up in Florham Park, New Jersey and graduated from Hanover Park High School and Morris County College. She loved her first job as a social worker and continued this path of caring and doing for others throughout her life.

In her twenties, Mary moved to Florida where she made many life-long friends. She had a long and successful career at Pritikin Longevity Center in Miami where she worked for 37 years. She loved her job, colleagues, and guests. Her compassion, generosity, sense of humor, and kindness leave a lasting impact on the Pritikin community.

It is hard to capture such a beautiful person in a few sentences because no words can express the light that she brought to this world. Mimi was a true angel on earth. With a magnetic personality, contagious smile and an infectious laugh, everyone wanted to be with her - whether it be Pritikin guests, colleagues, friends, or family. She had the unique ability to make all of those she encountered feel truly loved and important. She encouraged loved ones to live life to the fullest, and she never missed an opportunity to identify and emphasize the best in all of us.

Besides being with family and friends Mimi enjoyed music, old movies, comedy sitcoms and fine cuisine. Her faith was always of great importance to her and when she no longer could attend church, she watched a daily mass televised from Toronto.

Mary is predeceased by her parents, Anita (nee Riordan) and Roy Sussman, her brother Peter Sussman, and nephew Patrick Sussman. She is survived by her brother Roy Sussman Jr. and his wife Sandi, her sister Clare Flanner, her sister-in-law Bobbie Sussman, her nieces and nephews, and her great nieces and nephews.
