Andrew Deitel Obituary

Obituary of Andrew "Andy" Deitel

Born April 19, 1950 in New York City to parents Jeannette and Arthur Deitel, Andy died peacefully in his sleep on March 26, 2026. He is survived by Steve Deitel (Janet Sherman) and their children, Nitai Deitel and Galit Deitel.

When Andy was about eleven, the family moved from Queens Village to Westbury on Long Island, where Andy went to Westbury junior and senior high school. In his spare time, Andy always had a part-time job. Whether parking cars at the local country club or caddying on the golf course, he always had a side hustle.

After graduating from high school, Andy went to college at the University of Oklahoma, where he joined the ZBT fraternity and made many lifelong friends. Being an OU alum meant the world to Andy. Later, when living in Denver, Andy served as president of the local OU alumni association and organized watch parties for OU football games. After earning his Bachelor's degree in Business, Andy worked many years in sports marketing. When he lived in Brooklyn, he worked for the Brooklyn Sports Foundation.

His brother Steve moved to Brooklyn with his wife Janet, where Andy's nephew Nitai and niece Galit were born. Not having children himself, Nitai and Galit were his pride and joy.

After moving to Colorado, Andy got into the casino business, working for many years as a concierge at Blackhawk, where he also made good friends. Andy continued his casino acumen by working many "casino nights" dealing blackjack, something he kept up until the end, truly enjoying teaching players the intricacies and tricks of the trade. Following the Blackhawk period, Andy became an entrepreneur. He built a business providing items for nonprofit fundraisers, specializing in sports memorabilia and rock & roll, two of his passions.

Calling Andy a sports fan was an understatement. When his TV didn't broadcast a game he wanted to see, you could always find Andy at Wild Wings, where "everybody knew his name." Always a New Yorker at heart, his teams were the Yankees and the Giants.

Over the years, Andy faced a number of health challenges. To his credit, he kept trying to beat the odds, continuing to hold a part-time job and working very hard to stay as healthy as he could. May he rest in peace.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Andy's memory may be made to: Rocky Mountain PBS, Hillel at the University of Oklahoma, or Rotaplast.org (which repairs cleft palates for children world-wide).
