Brian Lovett Obituary

Brian Thomas Lovett, 71, of Northeast Denver, Colorado, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026, surrounded by family.

Brian was born on June 21, 1954, in Malone, New York, to John Lovett and Dorothy "Dot" Morris Lovett. Though not born in Colorado, he proudly considered himself a native after his family moved to Denver when he was six years old. He attended Saint James Elementary School and Machebeuf High School, where he formed lifelong friendships and connections. Brian especially loved his high school years, participating in the ski club, honors society, and the school newspaper.

Brian went on to attend the University of Colorado Boulder, initially pursuing a pre-med track before discovering his true passion for language and storytelling. He earned a bachelor's degree in English Literature and worked at the front desk of the historic Hotel Boulderado. A devoted CU sports fan, Brian carried his love for CU basketball and football throughout his life. During his time at CU, his friendship with high school classmate Patricia "Pat" Stine Lovett deepened into a romantic partnership, and the two were married in May 1976.

Brian began his career as a Dean of Students at a small liberal arts college in Vermont. After a year, he and Pat returned to Denver, where he launched a successful career in title insurance sales that spanned several decades. After "retiring" from that field, Brian pursued what he considered his dream job: real estate. He loved helping people find the right home and was known for his quick wit, insight, and genuine care for clients. Over his lifetime, Brian purchased or co-purchased more than 20 properties and delighted in moving to "downsize", often into homes larger than the last. His excellence in real estate was recognized with multiple 5-Star Real Estate Agent awards and glowing client reviews.

Brian's flexible career allowed him to devote himself to what he valued most: time with family. He was the proud father of Lisa Lovett and Jill Lovett Hansen (husband Jacob, son Patrick). When his daughters were young, the family spent countless weekends camping and exploring the Colorado mountains. As the family grew, so did their adventures, traveling across the United States and Europe. Brian especially loved beach vacations and spent over a decade making memories with family in Siesta Key, Florida.

If Brian loved homes, he loved cars even more. Fascinated by every make and model, he found joy in the art of negotiation and the thrill of a good deal. Over the years, he was involved in the purchase of more than 40 cars for himself, his children, and his nieces and nephews.

As he approached his second retirement, Brian embraced his favorite role yet: Grandpa and after-school caregiver to his grandson Patrick. He purchased a property with his children near Steamboat, Colorado, and spent his final years enjoying life at the "Deck House," filled with s'mores by the fire pit, lakeside picnics, and peaceful days among the aspen trees.

Brian's success in life was matched by his unforgettable personality. He was known for his sharp sarcasm, clever wordplay, silly stories, love of pop culture, and dirty sense of humor. He was the person who knew all the gossip, told the best jokes, and was always the one you wanted on your Trivial Pursuit team. Though he loved people, Brian famously embraced J.O.M.O.-the "joy of missing out"-and found deep happiness staying home, watching movies and TV, eating popcorn, and spending time with his beloved pets.

Everyone who knew Brian also knew one important date: June 21. What began as a birthday became a tradition he proudly stretched into a month-long celebration known as "Brian-mas," complete with reminders, jokes, and an expectation that proper recognition was non-negotiable and did not interfere or count towards Father's Day.

As the youngest boy among six siblings, Brian never fully mastered the art of sharing, a trait he carried through life with unapologetic charm. This included a playful refusal to share even with his beloved grandson Patrick, who quickly learned that Grandpa's snacks, remote control, and favorite seat were always up for negotiation, but rarely for surrender.
