Dong Ok Suh - beloved son, husband, father, and uncle - passed away on June 30, 2025, in Aurora, Colorado, surrounded by his family.
Dong was born on August 29, 1968, in South Korea to Il Ja and Jae Song Suh. In his teens, he immigrated to Colorado with his parents and younger brother. Uprooted from everything familiar at a young age, Dong faced the challenges of language, culture, and uncertainty head-on. It was not an easy path, but one that shaped his resilience and work ethic.
He met Connie Kim at Gateway High School in Aurora. They married in October 1997 and built a life together, raising two daughters, Janie and Jessica. Dong didn't always say much, but you never had to wonder how much he cared. You could see it in how he worked and how he showed up for his family every day. Dong embodied the Korean value of (jeong) - a deep, enduring affection and loyalty - especially when it came to his family. He might not have said "I love you" in so many words, but he showed it every day in how he provided for his family.
Dong was a self-made man with a mind that never rested. A true (jang-in) - a craftsman in every sense of the word - he had an eye for detail and the hands to bring ideas to life. Over the years, he ran several small businesses, from contractor services to bonsai sales. He worked tirelessly, always taking pride in creating something of his own to support his family.
Outside of work, he found comfort in the quiet. He loved fishing, cooking, gardening, drawing, and buildings things with his hands.
Dong is survived by his wife, Connie; his daughters, Janie and her husband Dylan Klomhaus, and Jessica; his mother, Il Ja Suh; his brother; his sisters; and many cousins, aunts, and uncles in both Korea and the United States. His absence leaves a space that cannot be filled, but his presence will remain with those who loved him most. His loss leaves a deep emptiness, but his memory continues through the people he loved.
