Douglas Alan Willey, age 74, died at his home in Highlands Ranch, Colorado on December 3, 2025. He was born and raised in Rochester, NY and attended the University of Akron and Kent State in Ohio where he received degrees in rehabilitation counseling, working for the State of Ohio after graduation.
Doug came to Denver in 1983 where he worked as a systems architect for IBM for thirty years until his retirement. A lover of all things related to the theater, movies, and music, he played the guitar, and his tenor voice was welcome in many choral groups, and at weddings. Later in life, golf became a passion. One of his proudest moments was his one and only hole-in-one.
Always active in any community where he lived, he was president of the Downtown Denver Residents Association, was a political precinct captain in Douglas County, and provided leadership to many groups at Wind Crest Erickson Senior Living where he resided for the past 7 years.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Jean; his stepchildren Cynthia Lindsey (Brian) and Charles Puma (Julie); and the three grandchildren he adored - Brandon, Rose, and Megan. He is also survived by his brother Dale (Heidi) of Rochester, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Diane.
A Celebration of Life will take place at the convenience of the family. Memorial gifts may be sent to The Pacific Whale Foundation in Maui, Hawaii.
