Flavia Lewis, a compassionate leader and devoted community advocate, passed away peacefully in Thornton, Colorado, leaving behind a legacy of empowerment and hope. Born Flavia Gordon in Brunswick, Ohio, in 1943, She dedicated her life to serving others, a journey that began with her pursuit of a master's degree in social work from the University of Denver. Her professional career culminated in her role as Executive Director of “The Council” in downtown Denver, a position she held from 1986 to 2006. During her tenure, Flavia was a tireless force for change, launching initiatives that met the diverse needs of the community. Among her most significant contributions was the prison inmate initiative, which connected incarcerated individuals with mentors, providing guidance, support, and a renewed sense of purpose. Flavia strongly believed that a person's past does not define their future, and through her unwavering commitment, she inspired countless individuals to embrace second chances. Flavia's influence extended far beyond her professional accomplishments; her kindness and empathy touched many lives. She will be remembered for her dedication to transforming her community and her ability to instill hope in those she served. Flavia is preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Christina Simpson, formerly of Thornton, Colorado. She is survived by her devoted husband of 25 years, Scott Lewis, also of Thornton; her loving son, Scott Selig, of Chico, California; and three cherished grandchildren, Jana Selig of Scottsdale, Arizona, Taylor Plew of Bend, Oregon, and Nicholas Simpson of Thornton, Colorado. Additionally, she is survived by her stepdaughter, Kim Downing, of Romeoville, Illinois, and two step-grandchildren, Savannah and Rylan Downing, also of Romeoville, Illinois. Flavia Lewis’s impact on her community and the lives she touched will resonate for generations to come. Her legacy of compassion, resilience, and belief in the power of transformation will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
