Gary Stephen Gurr May 31, 1942 – August 2, 2025 Gary Stephen Gurr, 83, of Broomfield, CO, died at his home on August 2, 2025, of natural causes. Born May 31, 1942, in Spanish Fork, UT, Gary was raised in the Uintah Basin and in Rangely, CO, where he met and married his high-school sweetheart and wife of 64 years, Barbara Carmickle Gurr, who died in 2024. Gary and Barbara settled in Thornton, CO where they raised their four children and where Gary enjoyed a thirty-year career as a sales manager for a wholesale specialty food distribution company.
A towering physical presence with a personality larger than life, Gary was an uncommonly kind, friendly and positive person who loved to laugh and talk with friends and family. He made fast friends out of complete strangers and brought humor and joy to all he met. Gary cherished the proud traditions of his rural western upbringing, loved sports and the outdoors, and was an avid elk hunter and pretty fair angler. Following his retirement, Gary worked at the National Western Stock Show each January and volunteered with the American Red Cross supporting disaster victims and as an Adams County polling official and election judge.
Together, Gary and Barbara built a wonderful, loving family home for their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gary was preceded in death by his father Joseph, mother Rowena, wife Barbara, and son David. He is survived by his sister Rosalee Neiberger and his children, Shelli Dimig, Jane Kraemer and Stephen Gurr. Gary is also survived by his 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
