Celebrating the Life of Irene Maria Harris

Irene Maria Harris (Irene Maria Hochschwender]), Our dedicated, kind, compassionate mother, devoted grandmother, caring and supportive sister, and one of the most generous and loving human beings we know, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026 at the age of 78. Her life was a testament to love, service, and unwavering kindness, touching the hearts of countless individuals.

The roles Irene treasured most was that of Mother and Grandmother. She is survived by her two loving daughters Dawn Lando and Shelley Devening (David). She poured her heart into her four beautiful grandchildren, Makayla Devening (Ireland), Kenzie Cady (Ethan), Brady Lando, and Parker Lando, who brought immense joy into her life. She taught them the importance of kindness. Irene is also survived by her two stepchildren, Scott Harris (Tisha), Carin Palmer and her four step grandchildren, Lauren Wood (Dafydd), Chandler Palmer (Meg), Tanner Harris (Grace) and Camrey Holden (Grant), her siblings Lynn McGowin,Ted Hochschwender (Anne Marie), James Hochschwender (Ximena) and Michael Hochschwender (Olivia) as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whose lives were enriched by her presence. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Harris, her mother Janet E. Hochschwender and her Father Herman K. Hochschwender.

Irene was born on September 4th 1947 in Akron, Ohio. Throughout her life Irene cultivated a spirit of presence, resiliency and deep empathy that would carry over into her 37 year career as a Trauma informed License Professional Counselor (LPC). Irene also enjoyed giving back to the community as a volunteer for several non-profit organizations. Her legacy of care leaves the world a better, healthier place.
