It is with deep sorrow we announce that James Marshall Gillespie, age 78 of Boulder, CO, passed away September 4th, 2025 of cancer. James was born in Wichita, KS August 14th, 1947 and was raised in Indianola, Iowa. He attended the University of KS and Emporia State College. He served in the Air National Guard before moving to Colorado, where he worked at CU Boulder for over 20 years before retiring. Jim enjoyed spending time with family, playing golf and working on projects at home and on the ranch. James is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Montgomery) Hilker; his children, Brent Gillespie, Brianna (Gillespie) Towber and William Gillespie; his brother, William Gillespie; and his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Abigail, Jacob, Daniel, Rebekah, Arthur and Audrey. James was preceded in death by wife Cathi (Flaherty) Gillespie; father Victor Gillespie; mother Lois (Wright) Gillespie; sister Vicki (Gillespie) Mickelsen. James was laid to rest at Maud Cemetery in Cunningham, KS on September 20th, 2025, surrounded by his family.
