James Michael Ritz passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 19th, surrounded by his family. He was a devoted husband and father, a deeply engaged grandfather and great-grandfather, and a loyal friend to many.
Jim was born on December 11, 1936, in Walsenburg, Colorado, where he spent his childhood and attended St. Mary’s Catholic School. He later studied at the University of Santa Clara in California before beginning his 35-year career at Martin Marietta in 1956. He also proudly served for several years in the Air Force Reserves. Over the course of his distinguished career, he rose to the role of Director of Electronics Manufacturing. Jim completed his degree from the University of Colorado while attending night school, a testament to his work ethic and determination.
In 1965, Jim married the love of his life, Mary Ann Motis, and together they built a beautiful life filled with faith, family, and adventure. He was an avid Denver Broncos fan, loved golf and camping, and above all cherished every moment spent with his family. After retiring at the age of 55, Jim and Mary Ann traveled extensively, enjoying many memorable cruises and adventures together.
Jim is survived by his wife of more than 60 years; his children Cindy Shafer (Greg), Susan Ritz, James Ritz Jr. (Julie), and Bryan Ritz (Sarah); sixteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Katheryn; his brothers George and Richard; and his sister, Rosemary Smith.
A Celebration of Life will be held on December 6th at 11:00 a.m. at All Souls Catholic Church, 4950 S. Logan St., Englewood, Colorado.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jim’s honor may be made to Valor Christian High School or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Jim will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved him.
