In Memory of Konstantinos D. Latsis

Konstantinos (Kostas, “Gus”) Latsis, age 85, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, fell asleep in the Lord on September 12, 2025, in his home in Denver, Colorado, surrounded by his family.

Kosta was born on January 14, 1940, in Karyes, Laconia, Greece to Dimitrios and Zoe (Matzouranis) Latsis, both of blessed memory. He was the fourth of seven children. He moved to Athens at the age of 15 to find work to help provide for his family. While serving in the Greek military, he was recognized for his skills in driving large transport vehicles, which would lead to his lifelong career in the United States.

In 1966, Kosta arrived in Denver to join his brothers, Petros and Tom. He met the love of his life, Kanela Hasapis, and after a short courtship they were married on September 20, 1970. They were blessed with two daughters and welcomed seven grandchildren. Together they created a beautiful life, enriched with family, friends, travel, wonderful experiences, and many cherished memories.

Kosta loved our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his Greek Orthodox faith, his wife, children, grandchildren, sports, and travels - especially his annual Caribbean cruises. As a natural born athlete, he was an avid soccer player, skier, golfer, and bowler. Kosta was a man of incredible positivity and strength - mental, physical, and spiritual. He loved deeply and gave of himself generously. Kosta loved children and was known by many as the “lollipop man.” He will be remembered for his humility, his radiant smile and warmth. As a true Spartan, he fought a heroic battle against cancer, not allowing it to take away from the fullness of the life he had created.

Kosta is survived by his wife of 55 years, Kanela Latsis; his daughters Zoe (Terry) Palmos and Georgia “Youly” (Stephen) Stephenson; his grandchildren Dean and Alexandra Melissaris, Stepanie, Leo, and Kosta Palmos, and George and Julianna Stephenson; his siblings George (Leuki) Latsis, Eleni (George) Fotiou, and Vasiliki Kyriacopoulos; and numerous nieces, nephews, godchildren, friends, and neighbors.

Kosta was predeceased by his parents and siblings: Petros and Velma Latsis, Tommy and Letsa Latsis, Maria and Socrates Stassinos, Pantelis Kyriacopoulos.

Trisagion followed by Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 10:00 AM, at the Assumption of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 4610 East Alameda Avenue, Denver, Colorado, 80246. Interment will follow at 12:00 PM at Fairmount Cemetery, 430 South Quebec Street, Denver, CO 80247. A Makaria luncheon will follow at the Assumption Cathedral Community Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Assumption of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Kosta’s memory.
