Leo Sowada passed away suddenly on March 6, 2026 in Idaho Falls, ID. He was preceded in death by his son Matthew on October 25, 2000 and his wife Norma on September 20, 2018. Also, preceding him in death were his parents Valentine “Micky” and Josephine “Patsy” Sowada. Leo and Norma were married for 43 years. Leo was an unforgettably bright spark. He was a devout Traditional Catholic, Alaskan homesteader, marksman, gunsmith, inventor, welder, and most importantly a beloved father and grandfather. He is survived by his daughter Rachel (Nick Bushnell) and their children Maureen, Paul, Sister Marie Innocent (Audrey), Collette, Elise, Cyprian, Roman, Leo, Gretchen, Ingrid, and Suzie, as well as his son Clint (Heather Woodhouse) and their children Gertrude, Abraham, Sebastian, Ignacio, and Fiona.
There will be no services in the Idaho Falls area. A viewing and rosary will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Saint Isidore Catholic Church in Watkins, CO on March 18, 2026 followed by a traditional Catholic Requiem Mass beginning at 2:30 p.m. Friends and relatives are most welcome to attend.
