Linda Lillian Fairbairn July 6, 1948 – November 16, 2025
With deep love and heartfelt remembrance, the family of Linda Lillian Fairbairn announces her passing on November 16, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on July 6, 1948, Linda lived a life defined by compassion, integrity, and unwavering dedication to the people she loved and the communities she served.
A gifted student, Linda graduated at the top of her class from East High School in 1966. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in English from Southern Colorado State College in 1970. Her commitment to public service led her to continue her education, earning her Master of Public Administration from the University of Denver in 1982.
Linda devoted more than four decades to social services in rural Colorado. She began her career as a caseworker for the Kit Carson County Department of Social Services in 1971. In 1974, she became the Director of the Lincoln County Department of Social Services, serving in that role for more than 20 years. From 1995 until her retirement in 2013, she led the Prowers and Baca County Department of Social Services. Throughout her career, she served on numerous advisory boards dedicated to Human Services, Developmental Services, Community Services, and Mental Health and Family Guidance. Her work touched countless lives and strengthened the very fabric of the communities she served.
Family was the heart of Linda’s world. She was the one everyone turned to—the steady confidant, the wise counselor, the person who showed up no matter what. Though she never had children of her own, she considered her nieces and nephews her kids, and they cherished her as a second mom.
Linda found joy in writing stories and poems, reading mysteries, cheering for her beloved Denver Broncos (as proudly declared #1 Fan), and offering help to anyone in need. A breast cancer survivor, she embodied strength and resilience. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, wisdom, and the unconditional love she shared so freely.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Thomas Fairbairn; her brother, Tommy Fairbairn; her brother-in-law, William (Bill) Gray; her nephew, Mike Fairbairn; and her sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Don Pierson.
She is survived by her sister, Sandra Gray; her sister-in-law, Katie Fairbairn; her nieces, Misty Mockry (Mike) and Monica Thelen (Jeff Bain); her nephew, Mark Fairbairn (Melissa); and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews who adored her.
