Louis Sanchez Obituary

Louis John Sanchez

December 27, 1941 - August 27, 2025

Louis John Sanchez, a beacon of joy and laughter whose life journey began in the quaint town of Walsenburg, Colorado. Born on December 17, 1941, he was the third child in a loving family that included his devoted parents, John Dios Sanchez and Clara Sanchez, and his cherished siblings: brother Richard and sisters Mary Tuffing and Nancy Cruz.

As a spirited child, Louis brought vivacity to every moment, often seen teasing his siblings while artfully maneuvering on stilts or shooting hoops in the neighborhood. His athletic talent shone bright during his high school years at Walsenburg High, where he earned the title of "Most Athletic," a testament to his passion for basketball. Though a scholarship awaited him to further his education, life had other plans as he was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving faithfully from 1959 until 1966.

In the heart of Walsenburg, love blossomed when he met Rosemarie Trujillo, and their union brought forth two wonderful children, Louis R. Sanchez and Denise Sanchez. As a father, Louis embraced the role with warmth and kindness, later welcoming the joy of grandchildren: Michael, Jesse, and Brittany Sanchez, who were his pride and joy.

Louis devoted much of his life to his profession as a custodian, ensuring that every space he tended reflected his diligent spirit. His commitment to faith manifested as a long-time member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, a foundation of strength and community throughout his life.

In his leisure, Louis was never far from the pool tables or the thrill of games in Las Vegas, often relishing the camaraderie with his lifelong friends—Tino Lara, Cliff Dyran, Tony Valdez, and Diane Bushey. Together, they created cherished memories filled with laughter, friendly competition, and shared triumphs, especially when it came to winning football pools.

For the last seven years of his life, Louis found comfort in living with his sister, Nancy, whose love and compassion provided solace in his later years. Though he may no longer walk among us, Louis’ vibrant laughter, his cherished memories, and the indelible mark he left on all who knew him will forever illuminate our lives.

Louis passed away peacefully at Swedish Hospital on August 27, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter. He is survived by his brother Richard, sisters Mary and Nancy, daughter Denise, and grandchildren Jesse and Brittany, all of whom will carry forth his spirit in their hearts.
