Lucille Smith Obituary

Smith
Lucille Darline
Smith
August 29, 2022

Lucille passed away quietly on August 29, 2022, at Swedish Hospital after a long illness with her daughter, Lisa by her side. She was 95.

Lucille was born in Teeds Grove, Iowa. She grew up on her family's farm in Teeds Grove, later moving to Clinton when she was a teenager. She loved living in Iowa and spoke fondly of her years living in this area. She especially missed being around the Mississippi River and the beautiful bluffs along the river.

She was an honor student at Lyons High School. During and after high school, Lucille worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, Interstate Power Company and Climax Engineering. She also worked for General Electric in Morrison, IL.

On July 1, 1950, Lucille married Donald S. Smith in Denver, CO. After coming to Denver, Lucille worked for the Public Service Company of Colorado; Admiral Finance Company; Glenn B. Wilson Employment Specialists and Ward Transport Inc. as an Executive Secretary, Accounts Receivable Bookkeeper, Payroll Administrator and Notary Public.
Throughout the years, she volunteered for the following organizations - American Heart
Association; American Cancer Society; Leukemia Society of America; March of Dimes Foundation; Multiple Sclerosis Society; Muscular Dystrophy; Easter Seals and American Diabetes Society.

She was the past President of the Southern Hills Planters' Garden Club, as well as holding all other offices in the club.

Lucille was very active in the Colorado Motor Carriers' Ladies Auxiliary and held many offices. During her membership, she was Chairman of the Colorado Legislative Luncheon for the Colorado State Senators who worked closely with the trucking industry.

For many years, she was involved in civic interests such as being a Denver County Election Judge and being involved in local and state politics including attending the Denver County Conventions/Assemblies. Also was a member of the Colorado Chapter of the League of Women Voters.

While being very interested in her neighborhood and surrounding community, she was active in the Southern Hills Community Association as a member of their Board of Directors.

She held memberships at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, Denver Botanic Gardens and the Denver Art Museum. She volunteered at these institutions during special national exhibitions and events.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa A. Smith (Denver, CO). She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald S. Smith; her parents, Detlef A. Petersen and Leona C. Greve Petersen; her sister, Bernice L. Petersen Bentley (Clinton) and her brother, Gilbert H. Petersen (Clinton).

Lucy was loved by all who knew her and will be deeply missed.

A remembrance and celebration of her life will be held at Augustana Lutheran Church on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. in Christ Chapel. The Church is located at 5000 E. Alameda Avenue, Denver, CO 80246.
