Marshall Lawrence Hamamoto was born March 5, 1942, in Hanapepe, Kauai to Richard Masaichi Hamamoto and Jane Cheiko (Murayama) Hamamoto. Born just 3 months after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii was under Marshall Law. In remembrance, he was named Marshall Lawrence. He enjoyed a carefree life in his family's home in Waimea with his older sister Judith and his baby sister Vivian. At an early age, Marshall took an interest in electronics, constantly taking apart appliances and electronics and then putting them back together.
After graduating High School, he enlisted in the US Army to expand his knowledge of electronics. He was stationed at several US Army bases around the country, where he served as a Missile Jammer.
After the Army, he enrolled in Adams State College in Colorado. On a trip to Denver one weekend, he met the love of his life Janet Kaye Davis. Welcomed daughter Lisa and married Jan in 1967.
Marshall settled with his family in Arvada, Colorado and joined the Denver Fire Department in 1971 as a Lineman. He will be remembered as an innovator in communications, keeping the DFD at the forefront of communication technology. Marshall and Jan remained in Arvada for over 50 years, raising daughters, Lisa, Karen, and Amy. He was the consummate Girl Dad, attending every Daddy/Daughter event, soccer game and teaching his girls the value of hard work, honesty, and respect.
It is so hard to put the life of Marshall into a few paragraphs, but his life was one dedicated to service of his Country, the community and most importantly his family. His commitment to service is demonstrated in his Active-Duty Service, his almost 30 years at the Denver Fire Department, his over 40 years as Secretary of the the International Municipal Signal Association. His commitment to family is also expressed in his trip to Kauai in 1992 to rebuild his childhood home for his mother. Her home was destroyed in Hurricane Iniki in September of 1992 and most importantly, his marriage to Jan for almost 60 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Jane Hamamoto, and his sister Judi.
Survived by loving wife of 57 years Jan, daughters, and sons: Lisa and Norman Payne, Michelle and Brad Balderston, Karen and Paul Beavis, Amy and Pete Beavis. Grandchildren Jake Payne, Cameron and Madison Gilbert, Josh Beavis, Katie Beavis, Luke Beavis, Kalsin Beavis, Leini Beavis, his sister Vee (Hamamoto)Uwaine and countless cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and friends.
Services will be held at Horan and McConaty 9998 Grant St. Thornton, CO 80229. Thursday September 5, 2024, at 10:00 am.
