Let us celebrate the life of Martha "Marty" Louise Holladay, who was born on June 14, 1944, in Winston-Salem, NC, and passed away on March 31, 2026. Known to all as "Marty," she had a fierce presence and was known for her sassy humor. Her wit and creativity were infectious, leaving a unique imprint on everyone she encountered. Her heart belonged to the beach and the ocean, but her true joy was sharing those moments with the people she loved. As the renowned poet, Khalil Gibran, once said, "In the depth of your hopes and desires lies your silent knowledge of the beyond." Marty's hopes and desires were a beacon of light guiding her life.
Marty worked as a fourth-grade teacher. Her charisma and spirit often transcended the classroom walls, making learning an exciting journey for her students. She was a woman of many interests; whether dabbling in art, solving a challenging puzzle, walking her beloved dog, celebrating with friends, or baking the next delicious treat, Marty lived life taking no prisoners. Over the years, she had made homes in places as diverse as Silver City, New Mexico; St John's, US Virgin Islands;
Great Barrington, MA;
Clinton, NY;
Ann Arbor, MI; Vermont; and
Longmont, Colorado, where she resided in her later years. Each place was a new chapter, a new adventure, and a new opportunity to make lasting memories.
Martha "Marty" was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Seppo Odell, and her parents, Milton Wiese and Addie Grogan. She is survived and dearly missed by her loving daughters, Ashley Connolly and Melissa Holladay, and her loving son Christopher Tate Holladay and step-son Elijah Odell, and her grandchildren Ruby, Sawyer, Gage, Scarlett and Bess.
