Michael Hennigan Obituary

In loving memory of Michael Patrick Hennigan, beloved Husband, Father, Stepfather, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, and Friend, passed away at the young Age of 69 from a short but fierce battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis and Sarcoidosis. Mike passed away February 5th surrounded by family both in person and virtually. He leaves behind a legacy of generosity, warmth, and unforgettable family moments.

Mike was preceded in death by his sister Kelly, and his parents, Stephen and Joan Hennigan. He is survived by his loving wife, Kimberly Hennigan, who stood by his side as partner and confidante for 30 years. Mike is also survived by his children and their families whom he guided and nurtured through life's journeys:

Son Patrick and Wife Jing and their 2 children Naomi and Richie; Son Ryan and Wife Jil and their son Ryker; Son Brian and Wife Katie; Daughter Julianne and Wife Callie and their son Caiden, and Son Sean Hennigan and his beloved Dog Jack.

Also survived by his siblings and their families: Patricia and Alan Van Kirk, Karen and Bud Bryant, and Stephen Hennigan. As well as his nieces/ great nieces and nephews and their families.

Mike was born in Montclair, New Jersey to a traditional Irish Catholic family of 7. His family moved to Des plains, Illinois, and then Wisconsin, where Mike's early years were filled with adventure. He often spoke fondly of his time growing up at Lake Benedict. Hours spent boating and fishing surrounded by nature. Along with some other family member over the years, He eventually relocated to Arizona, where he found his academic home at Arizona State University. It was here he earned both a Master's degree and became a Certified Public Accountant, achievements that marked the beginning of a successful career. One of which positions brought him to Pinnacle West, where he met Kimberly his wife and had their son Sean.

In 1996, he and Kimberly blended their families, embarking on a new journey together. Their life in Phoenix was filled with love, laughter, and the daily rituals of family life. Mike taught his children to drive, instilled in them a sense of financial responsibility, and was always available to offer sage advice or support. He embraced his role as a soccer dad, cheering from the sidelines across cities and states, and supporting his children's pursuits both on and off the field. Through Kindergarten, 8th grade, High School and College Graduations, to concerts and shows, and awards ceremonies, Mike was there.

In 2005, Mike and Kim relocated to Colorado. Their home became a gathering place for family and friends, filled with the sounds of laughter, the colors of Mike's garden, and the aroma and sizzle of his grill. Mike's love for gardening, grilling, and sharing meals brought everyone together, creating cherished traditions that will live on.

Mike had a passion for all things cooking. His tortilla soup became a family tradition, and his holiday pies were anticipated all year long. These dishes were more than meals-they were expressions of his dedication to family and the joy he found in bringing people together. He was a cocktail connoisseur and enjoyed nothing more than to share a beer and good conversation.

Mike had a deep appreciation for cars, spending countless hours admiring their craftsmanship, restoring them, working on them and even playing with cars with his Grandson Ryker. He was proud to take his Impala and S2000 to shows or just cruises. Always eager to share this passion with friends and family. Mike liked to Ski and even white water rafted a few times! He enjoyed movies including JAWS, Jurassic Park, Austin Powers, and Pulp Fiction, always ready to quote a classic line. He loved Pinball and Bowling. He enjoyed live music and classic vinyl. Loved to listen to Ryan and Sean perform at family gatherings and hardly ever missed one of Seans live Shows!

In his later years, Mike became a Forensic accountant and auditor for the SEC which he was very proud of. Ultimately retiring in 2022, he filled his time helping file tax returns to stay sharp and up to date with the latest policies and rules.

Michael Patrick Hennigan will be remembered as a man of heart, humor, and generosity. His legacy lives on through the family he loved, the friendships he nurtured, and the countless lives he touched. As we say goodbye, we hold close the memories and lessons he shared. Although cut far too short, we celebrate a life well-lived and a spirit that will forever be part of our story.

A memorial gathering will be announced at a later date.
