Master Sergeant Michael David Lind (USA Ret.)
July 28, 1955 – March 31, 2026
Michael David Lind, a man of immense presence, infectious laughter, and a heart as big as his BBQ smoker, passed away on March 31, 2026, in
Parker, Colorado. He was 70 years old.
Born in
Northfield, MN and raised in Cannon Falls MN. Mike's journey of service began in 1974 when he joined the U.S. Army. While attending his military service school, he met the love of his life, Susan. They married in 1975, beginning a 50-year partnership built on shared duty and deep devotion.
Mike served his country with distinction for 20 years, retiring in 1994 as a Master Sergeant. His decorated career included the Meritorious Service Medal, three Army Commendation Medals, and the Bronze German Armed Forces Achievement Badge. Following his military retirement, Mike continued his life of public service with a 20-year career at the Colorado Department of Corrections, where he earned the nickname "Maddog" and retired with the rank of Captain.
Beyond his service, Mike was a staple of his community as a small business owner. Together, Mike and Sue opened and ran Suzy Q's Cafe in Franktown, Colorado, where his devotion and hard work touched many lives.
While his colleagues knew him as a disciplined leader, his close friends called him "Buddha", and his family knew him simply as "Big Papa". Mike was famous for his larger-than-life energy and a laugh that could fill any room. He was happiest at the grill or with a fishing line in the water. Nothing brought him more joy than cooking for his family; you knew something special was on the menu when he'd greet you with wide, bright brown eyes and an excited, "Come check this out!"
He is preceded in death by his father, Rodney Lind; his beloved granddaughter, Keely Lind; and his loyal dogs, Chip and Chip.
Mike's legacy lives on through his wife, Susan; son, David (Christi); daughter, Trinity (Cory); grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Samantha, Jasmine, Damian, Noah, Stormy, Dillon (Nick), Faith, Mila, Eleanor and Ace. Mother, Josephine; Siblings; Ginny (Ken), Cindy (Pat), Rodney; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He leaves behind a void that can only be filled by the memories of his energetic spirit and the smell of a perfectly fired-up BBQ.
