Myron Eugene Horst February 28, 1943 – December 11, 2025

Myron Eugene Horst passed away on December 11, 2025, in Greeley, Colorado, at the age of 82. He was born on February 28, 1943, in Fort Collins, Colorado, and spent his life deeply rooted in Northern Colorado.

Myron grew up farming alongside his parents, Elmer and Florine Horst, and his younger brother, Harlan, in Berthoud, Colorado. Those early years shaped his strong work ethic, mechanical skills, and lifelong appreciation for hard work, teamwork, and being outdoors.

He graduated from Johnstown High School in 1961 and went on to attend technical school. Myron built a steady career, working as a mechanic at Weld County Garage and Farm Hand, driving a semi-tractor and trailer for Eisenman Trucking and eventually joining the newly established Kodak Colorado manufacturing team in 1973 as a maintenance mechanic. He took pride in his work at Kodak and appreciated the opportunities the company gave him to contribute practical, money-saving ideas. He enjoyed life best when he could be outside playing softball, camping or fishing, running his yard care or firewood businesses or working in the field.

Sports were a lifelong joy for Myron and upon retiring he and Ruth enjoyed winters in Mesa, AZ allowing him to play softball on multiple teams year-round. He also enjoyed basketball and bowling, and tried his hand at tennis, winning the only tournament he ever entered. Almost as much as playing, he loved watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participate in whatever sport they chose, always cheering them on with pride.

During retirement Myron returned to his other lifelong passion, farming. For over 20 years he worked for the Podtburg Dairy, and later the Longs Peak Dairy cutting hay and driving corn trucks in Northern Colorado.

On December 16, 1962, Myron married the love of his life, Ruth Podtburg, in a double ceremony alongside her brother Richard and his bride Phyllis. Together, Myron and Ruth shared a life filled with family, hard work, and simple joys. They were blessed with three children, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Myron was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Florine Horst. He will be remembered for his dedication to family, his mechanical ingenuity, his love of sports, and the steady, dependable presence he brought to the lives of those who knew him.

A Celebration of Life and reception will be held on February 28, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Mountain View Community Church on Prospect Road in Fort Collins, Colorado.
