Richard “Rick” Dean Treptow was born in Albion, Nebraska on May 8, 1961 to Harold E. and Yvonne L. Treptow. The second of four sons, Rick was a 3rd generation contractor and pursued many interests in his lifetime.
When Rick was a child growing up, he worked many summers (and some weekends) with his brothers on his grandfather’s farm. He was driving both vehicles and tractors by the age of 10, a necessity in small town, rural Nebraska. In 1967, his family moved from Primrose to Millard, NE, eventually making their way to Littleton, CO in 1976. Rick attended Douglas County High School, where he graduated in 1979.
Rick was a man of many talents. At age 17, he realized a dream by drafting, designing and constructing his dream home in McArthur Ranch, CO. During that process, he found a passion for woodworking that he enjoyed engaging in throughout his life, and was project manager for many prominent construction companies in the Denver metro area and beyond. He ultimately embraced his entrepreneurial spirit and became an independent contractor in Denver for 20 years.
In 2000, Rick married the love of his life, Kristin Farner. They enjoyed traveling, cooking, spending time with family, and making music. When Kristin formed her band in 2007, Rick volunteered to run sound. Motivated by a new-found passion, he took online courses and received an associate degree from Berkelee College of Music in sound engineering. Rick was a beloved figure in his community for his talent, kind heartedness and good will.
Rick passed away at home on June 10, 2025 after a battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Kristin Treptow of Lakewood, CO; his father, Harold Treptow of Brule, NE; brothers Daniel and Steven Treptow and his son, Alexander Treptow. He is also survived by several other relatives, in-laws and many friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, Yvonne L. Treptow of Brule, NE; brother Terrance Treptow; grandparents Carroll and Merna Treptow and John and Barbara Dobson; and his mother-in-law Kay Skinner.
A Celebration of Rick's life will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025 at 1:00PM at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 South Wadsworth Boulevard, Lakewood, Colorado. A reception will follow.
