Susie Carroll (Maddox) Obituary

Susie Carroll, born May 15, 1945, passed on Sunday, April 5, 2026. She is preceded in death by her parents, Chetford “Chet” and Chloe Maddox; her brothers, Jim and Darrell Maddox; and her sisters, Norma “Teets” McWilliams, Nadean Kindell, and Reva Musselmann. She is survived by her husband, Daniel Carroll; her son, Steven Carroll (Sinuon); her daughter, Christina Carroll; and three grandchildren, Brianna Carroll (Matthew Hundley), Kenyon Carroll, and Netayah Chum. She is also survived by her sister, Renee “Dolly” Wing, and her brother, Tom “Bud” Maddox.

Susie was born in Snowflake, Arizona, and spent her childhood moving from place to place along the Western Slope of Colorado. As an adult, she lived in Colorado Springs, Seattle, Castle Rock, McCook (Nebraska), and Centennial. She worked as a secretary at many companies in her early adulthood, including the oil company where she met her husband. Additionally, she worked cleaning apartments between tenants, as a pharmacy assistant, catering weddings, and at school and senior home cafeterias. Her main passion was homemaking, raising her children and three grandchildren. Especially her three grandchildren.

Susie was a lover of all music and kept a beat in her toes until her very last breath. She was truly a renaissance woman. She was a painter, sketch artist, writer, seamstress, cook, baker, and furniture refinisher, to name only a few of her talents. You name it, she could figure out how to do it, and when it was done, it was beautiful. She was also unquestionably a very hard worker. She painted houses, hauled wood, and refurbished the family home before selling it. Many told her she “worked like a man,” and she was quite proud of that fact.

Susie was incredibly charitable. She could not bear to see anyone suffer, especially children or animals. She spent many years volunteering at her grandkids’ schools, providing food for many events and potlucks. Countless hours were devoted to perfecting recipes to be enjoyed by others. Her cookies are legendary. When she became aware of dwindling supplies in the school’s food pantry, she made it her mission to keep it fully stocked, spending hours shopping for pantry staples and cutting Box Tops. She won the school’s Volunteer of the Year award.

Susie’s greatest work, though, was loving, supporting, and taking care of her three amazing grandchildren, Brianna, Kenyon, and Netayah. She taught each of them to be strong, compassionate, genuine, steady, hardworking, independent, and amazing people, and there is no doubt she succeeded in that endeavor.

Susie requested no formal services be held. The family is honoring her wishes in considering later possibilities.

In lieu of flowers, Susie would be most honored by donations in her name to Food Bank of the Rockies.
