Sybil Baker Obituary

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Sybil Sonnier Baker, age 90, died on January 8, 2026, in Littleton, Colorado after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

She is survived by daughter, Andrea Baker Davoll and her husband Gregory Lee Davoll, and her grandchildren, Nicholas Grey Davoll, Demi Jane Davoll, and Benjamin Baker Davoll of Englewood, Colorado. Sybil is also survived by her nieces, nephews and their spouses; Anne Sonnier; Jack Sonnier; Todd and Karen Britton; Ally Britton; Kurt and Julie Kippes; Ann and Mark Bachand; Kay Maier; and their children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Baker; parents, Anne Guillory Sonnier and Clarence Sonnier; brother, Reggie Sonnier and his wife Carolyn Sonnier; sister-in-law, Peg Britton and her husband Roy Britton; sister-in-law, Barbara Kippes and her husband Al Kippes; and nephew, Dane Britton.

Sybil was born on March 19, 1935, in Eunice, Louisiana. She attended high school at St. Edmund Catholic School in Eunice, received her undergraduate degree at the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette, and earned her Masters of Elementary Education at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. After graduation, she joined the US Civil Service and moved to Seville, Spain where she taught the children of American service members on Moron Air Force Base. While living in Seville, she met her husband, Bruce Baker, and they were married in Gibraltar, Spain. They remained married until Bruce's death in 1993. Sybil was a lifelong supporter of the military, particularly the US Air Force.

After they married, Sybil and Bruce moved back to the US and settled in Louisiana, where their daughter, Andrea, was born. They moved to Colorado in 1980. Sybil was a stay-at-home mother but never lost her love of teaching. After Bruce died, she started a new chapter as a music teacher at St. Mary's Early Learning Academy, Bliss Academy, and Bethany Lutheran Early Childhood Center in Denver, Colorado.

The happiest time in her life was becoming a grandmother to her three grandchildren, Nick, Demi, and Benji. She adored them and viewed every minute that she spent with them as a precious gift. She was extremely creative and was an accomplished seamstress, cook, musician, and artist. She was also very dedicated to her Christian faith and loved God with her whole heart.

Sybil was an ovarian cancer survivor and two-time breast cancer survivor. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease in 2008. The family is grateful to all of the wonderful caregivers who supported Sybil and the family over the years. She was buried, with her husband Bruce, at Fort Logan Cemetery on January 16th, 2026.
