Thomas "Tommy-TJ" Jarmon Obituary

Thomas Edward Jarmon known to many as “ Tommy or TJ ”was born June 2, 1963, in Kansas City, KS. He transitioned on May 27, 2025, in Denver, CO.

Tommy was raised in a large, loving family in Oakley, KS. As a child and youth, he attended Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, where he gave his life to Christ. Tommy and his siblings often sang for the church, led by his Mother, Leona, who played the piano and organ.

Tommy was educated in Oakley and the surrounding school system. He attended Monument Elementary, Oakley Junior High and Oakley High school. During high school, Tommy enjoyed shop class, where he learned how to fix and maintain vehicles. Also, this is where those who really knew Tommy got to experience the jovial, prankster and comedic side of him. This helped to land him in a few auditions and acting roles in the school’s ‘drama’ department play productions. He was also in the school’s band department and excelled in playing the drums for the marching band, pep rallies, and basketball games.

Tommy was very athletic and competed in football, track, and wrestling. He brought home medals to show his accomplishments. Outside of school, he loved to ride his unicycle, walk on stilts, ride his minibike, and ride horses. However, most of all he liked to hang out with his friends and family.

Tommy graduated from Oakley High School in 1982. He moved to Emporia, KS to be close to his older sister Billie, and her family. He enrolled at Emporia State University part-time while he worked full-time at the IBP meat packing plant until 1986.

Tommy wanted to see and experience new places, so he decided to move to Reno NV. While there, he became interested and involved in martial arts learning and practicing Jujitsu ( A Japanese form of unarmed combat & physical training) and Taekwondo ( A modern Korean martial art similar to Karate). He competed all around the United States in competitions.

Tommy was very agile, flexible and acrobatic and this helped him to secure a new position as a gymnastics coach for a few years.

Tommy moved to Denver, CO to be closer to his parents Laurence and Leona who moved to Denver in 1989. He decided to change occupations and wanted to learn a new craft where he could do something fun, be the life of the party, but also make money. So, he decided to attend ‘Mixology’ training and received his certificate to become a skilled, responsible bartender. He bartended until his illness.

Tommy enjoyed friends and family until the end. He loved to make others laugh. His smile was contagious, and his stomach was a bottomless pit as he loved to eat but never gained a pound!

Tommy often liked to use his martial arts expertise and wrestling holds on his nephews and nieces. LOL…

Tommy was a humble individual. He never wanted others to worry about him. “However, he would always offer to help others in any way he could.”

Tommy’s ultimate selfless act of kindness in death was to donate his tissue and skin grafts to assist burn victims with their healing and recovery.

Thomas Edward Jarmon, transitioned into eternal rest after a long lengthy battle with a debilitating health condition on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents Laurence and Leona Jones, his brothers Jesse Jones, Gene Jones, Terry Lee Jones & Wayne Brown. His sisters Billie Gardenhire, Margaret Ann Kirtley, Valerie Coley, Phyllis Gardenhire & Cindi Houston. Those left to cherish his memory are his (eldest sister) Ernestine Kendrick, Donna Bouknight, Darlene Kendrick, Jewell Emanuel, Chris Ukoha & Roxy Johnson and his (eldest living brother) Larry Jones, Terry T Jones and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
