Victoria "Sue" Brown was born April 17, 1963, in Moline, Illinois to James Junior Brown and Martha Dyne (Welsh) Brown. They brought her home and introduced her to her big brother as "Sissie," a name her brother and sister continued to call her throughout life. An enrolled member of the Brothertown Indian Nation of Mohegan and Oneida descent, Sue was an affectionate and hardworking woman who always put others first.
In her youth, Sue was an avid tennis and softball player, as well as a baton twirler, Pacman aficionado, and roller skater. After consistently winning every girls' race at Skateland, she began competing in – and winning – the boys' races. Sue played the clarinet, flute, piano, and organ. A naturally creative person, she spent countless hours doing Indian beadwork with her mother and sewing Barbie clothes. Sue was also an exceptional student. Becoming bored with school, she took the GED in Iowa at age 16, receiving the highest score ever recorded. With her life ahead of her, Sue decided to settle in
Denver, Colorado with her father and brother. In March 1982, she met her husband, Louis Robert "Louie" Swift. They spent the next 42 years together raising a family and enjoying friends and family, whom she loved dearly.
After Sue graduated from the University of Colorado with bachelor's and master's degrees in accounting and an MBA, she worked as an accountant for the State of Colorado. Sue retired in 2022 after 27 years of service. This gave her more time to spend with her family and friends. She loved doing crafts and baking cookies with the kids, playing Candy Crush, and watching classic sit-coms and her favorite film Dirty Dancing. Sue was the best at preparing large holiday meals for family, making Halloween costumes for her children and grandchildren, and planning outings for kids' birthdays, fireworks, and outdoor concerts.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Louie; her parents, Martha and Jim; aunts Skippy and Bette; cousins Marty, Sherrie, and Shawn; step-daughters Jeanette Vigil and Susan Baca; and sons-in-law Frank Portillo Jr and Dimitri Baca. Sue is survived by her siblings, Glen Brown and Kathee Pérez (Ventura); her children, LaShawn Swift-Serrat (Carlos), Jacob Swift (Melinda), and Felicia Swift (Kenneth); her stepdaughters, Lucinda Enriquez and Michelle Portillo (Duran); grandchildren Julius, Louis, Laila, Jadyn, Danika, Gracie Sue, Skylar, Conner, Aiden, Rodger, Marlayna, Darlene, Katrina, Larissa, Jasmine, Destiny, Justin, Abel, America, Alex, Leticia, Melissa, Marissa, Michael, Franqui, Alyssa, Christian, Isaac, and Kais; over 20 great- grandchildren; Aunt Gorgia, Uncle Edd, and Aunt Angie; her cousin Maureen; and many other family members and friends.
