With deep sorrow and abiding love, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Victoria K. Chavez, who left this world on July 27, 2025, at the age of 80.
Born on June 28, 1945, Vickie was the youngest of eight children to Sostenes Chavez and Catalina Sanchez—immigrants who worked tirelessly in farm labor to give their children a better life. Raised in the Catholic faith and later baptized in the Baptist church, Vickie carried a steadfast love for God that guided her through every chapter of her life.
Known to many in earlier years as Vickie Ortegon, she was a woman of deep compassion, sharp wit, and no-nonsense humor. She found joy in the simple pleasures—bingo nights, dancing to any good beat, and showing up for others with consistency, warmth, and heart. A proud Broncos fan to the end, Vickie rarely missed a game—and her admiration for John Elway was the stuff of family legend. If the Broncos were playing, she was cheering—loudly, loyally, and with snacks in reach.
She proudly devoted 29 years of service to Kaiser Permanente. In parallel, she became a fierce advocate for workers’ rights through SEIU Local 105, eventually rising to serve as the union’s Secretary-Treasurer. Her voice carried weight because it came from experience—and a heart deeply rooted in justice and dignity for all.
Vickie faced many hardships in life, but she carried them with a grace that didn’t whisper—it roared. Her quiet power was incredibly loud. She moved through the world with purpose, dignity, and a deep commitment to lifting others.
She is survived by her loving daughter Jackie and son-in-law Ben; her three cherished granddaughters Alex (27), Eli (17), and Sophia (10); and her treasured great-granddaughter Amelia (5)—a little light she never got to meet, but whose place in Vickie’s heart was certain.
She was “Aunt Vickie” to many—across generations—proudly holding titles like great-aunt, great-great-aunt, and possibly even great-great-great-aunt. All were touched by her strength, generosity, spirit, and unwavering love.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sostenes and Catalina, and all seven of her siblings—five sisters: Jessie, Jennie, Lilly, Mercy, and Carol; and two brothers: Modesto and Frank.
In honor of her legacy, the family invites you to perform an act of kindness, dance in your kitchen, or yell at the TV during a Broncos game—because that’s how she lived: in love, in motion, and always all-in.
To honor Vickie’s life, the family welcomes love in all forms—your memories, prayers, and presence mean everything.
