William Doran, Jr. Obituary

William H. Doran was born in Alliance, Nebraska February 5, 1930 to William and Caroline Doran. He had 3 brothers, Charlie, Mel and Les. He had one sister, Thelma. They lived in both Iowa and Nebraska.

He was married to Delores Scattergood on June 1, 1952. They had two children, Bob and Linda. They had 3 grand-children, Alex, Sean and Liam. They had three great-grandchildren, Harrison, Nathan and Elena. He was a Methodist Minister for 40+ years serving in the Nebraska Conference at Hardy, Hebron, Kearney, Lincoln and Grand Island. They retired to Broomfield, Colorado.

Bill had a wide circle of family and friends and was known and loved for the loyalty, support, and understanding he gave to others. He was also well known for his sense of humor, including one-liners and jokes. Wherever he went he initiated conversations with people and had a genuine interest in the people around him and wished them well in their lives.

There will be a celebration of Bill Doran's life on Tuesday, July 15, 1pm, at the Broomfield United Methodist Church. He has asked that instead of flowers people make a donation to the "William H and Delores A Doran Endowment Scholarship at Nebraska Wesleyan". Planned Giving Officer, Nebraska Wesleyan University, 5000 St. Paul Ave. Lincoln, Nebraska 68504

Bill filled in as pastor at a pivotal time for our church in Omaha. He made an instant connection with our very young son (now 32) and was always so kind, smart and funny. We have exchanged Christmas letters over the years and I always looked forward to hearing about his adventures and cherished relationships. My son recently became a father and I had hoped to share that news with Bill. Somehow I think he knows.

I first met Bill when I moved into the Brodie apartments in 2016. He was so gregarious and friendly. He had a lot of friends. We became acquainted with another person that lived at the Brodie and we began to meet every Tuesday night from 6:00 - 7:00 to talk about our lives, talk about politics and "solve the problems of the world." We called ourselves The Brodie Buddies. Sometimes we had wine and snacks. Other times we all went out to dinner. We had so much fun. Bill had such an intelligent and quick mind. He could remember names and events like no one else could. When he moved, he and I stayed in touch about every month going out for pizza and visiting. I will truly miss this wonderful man!

Thank you, Linda, for sharing your dad. Bill was an amazing man and I am fortunate to get to spend time with him. Our snow storm trip to Blaine for oysters was epic! Les, Connie and Grant
