William Parson Obituary

“LIVING ON PURPOSE”

William Jerell Parson Sr

William Jerell Parson Sr., affectingly known as "Chill," embarked on his earthly journey on July 14, 1972. Born in Denver, Colorado, to William Stanley Parson and Nancy Kaye Wright, he was a radiant spirit and the cherished second son in his loving family. William grew up surrounded by his brother David, other siblings and extended family that shaped his laughter-filled childhood. From a young age, William brought joy and mischief to those around him. A natural entertainer, his goofy faces and clever jokes became the stuff of family legend, particularly the time he tested the truth of a scene from *A Christmas Story,* sticking his tongue to a frozen flag pole, forever sealing his place in their hearts with tales of his playful antics. An enthusiastic learner, William attended McGlone Academy, Hamilton Middle School, and Montbello High School, graduating in 1992. He had a passion for culinary arts leading him to fulfill his lifelong dream by graduating from the esteemed Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts in 2021.William found joy in family life. He married Tamisha Crowley in 1998 and to this union 5 children were born. He later married the love of his life Mia Parson on August 22, 2011. Together, they welcomed 3 more beautiful children. In total William had 10 children, his own football team! To them, he was not just a father but a beacon of encouragement, laughter, and culinary delight. As a proud grandfather, he also embraced the love of his 4 grandchildren Ahna’Liyah, Korvay, TaKyah, and Amiyah, who joyfully referred to him as Papaw.Mia remembers with fondness how deeply William prioritized family, organizing outings and making sure there was always good food to complement their adventures. To his children, he was their biggest fan, chef extraordinaire, and a source of endless humor. He filled their lives with laughter, cheering them on at every pivotal moment, and creating unforgettable birthday dinners that confirmed his love through each delicious bite.William had an unyielding spirit, wearing many hats throughout his life—chef, music producer, stand-up comedian, and professional photographer. His beloved BBQ venture, My God That’s Good BBQ, was a heartfelt endeavor born from a passion for flavorful food, originating on the bustling corner of 17th and Broadway. His culinary reputation blossomed within the community, and he was honored to serve meals to the homeless, family reunions, festivals, the stock show, police and local restaurants. An awarded competitor, William, showcased his grilling prowess at various competitions, securing first place at the Parkhill BBQ Cookout in both 2015 and 2016, along with numerous accolades from local events and online sites. His signature homemade BBQ sauce “Fat Billy’s Barbeque Sauce” became a staple, beloved far and wide.Alongside his culinary talents, William also immersed himself in music. With Blac Wada Records, he produced tracks that combined rhythm and soul. Creating a gospel song with his daughter Nai’Essynce was a highlight of his musical journey, reflecting his unwavering faith and passion for sharing melodies with his family. He also performed as a stand-up comedian around Denver clubs and numerous events and was recently cast as a security guard in the movie “Yellow Pool”, which was to be filmed in Atlanta. The producer said his audition left everyone in stitches! His infectious humor will forever be missed.A devoted follower of Christ since a young age, William’s spiritual journey was guided by a deep commitment to share the Word of God with those around him. He will be remembered for his legacy of laughter and love he left in the hearts of all who knew him. With his smoker lovingly named The Mizbeah, meaning altar in Hebrew symbolizing his soulful offerings, he nourished both body and spirit, ensuring that no one around him went hungry. His legacy is a testament to the power of love, joy, and community.Preceding him in death is his paternal grandparents Doug and Rev. Mother Sidney Adams and maternal grandparents Leah Gilmer and Theron Forshee. Left to forever cherish his life and memory is his wife Mia; sons Torien, William Jr., Jakar, Cirvon and Yahshua; daughters, Nai Essynce, Thai Ashia, Leah, Jakara and Naomi; mother Nancy Hogue; father William S. Parson; brothers David, Marvin and Emaan; sisters Mary Ann, Kimberly Griffin, Keeazharae and Sidney, all of Denver and Kaliah Griffin, San Diego; uncles Alfred Wright and James Parson; aunts Mary (Lawrence) Lassiter, Carolyn Somerville and Darla Herndon also of Denver, his 4 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and many many friends.
