Farrell Pevey Obituary

Farrell Ray Pevey of Waggaman, was called home on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing at the age of 75. He was born on April 1, 1948 in Columbia, Mississippi. Loving father of Mary Margaret Pevey, Rhonda P. Robert, Patricia P. Smith and Dianna Pevey Graves (Scott, who was more like a son). Proud "Paw Paw" of Dustin Robert, Anthony Robert, Colton Graves (Kacie), Katie Smith (Ricky), Brea Smith (Greg), Taylor Graves, Austin Graves, Private Darren Robert Jr. "DJ", Christian Pevey and Alex Pevey and "Paw Paw/Grumps" to his great-grandchildren, Jacie, Zoe, Maddix, Raelyn, Zaidyn, Maxsten, Carson and Harper. Sister of Sheila Harris (Billy), Marilyn Barker, and brother of Lonnie Graves. Farrell is also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews, other relatives, great neighbors and friends for many years, Howard and Sheila Reed, Donald and Tina Mahl and Walter and Thelma Smith, as well as many other dear friends. Farrell was preceded in death by his wife Betty Powell Pevey, parents Willie and Gladys Graves, father James B. Pevey Jr., sisters Pam Hunter, Peggy Humphrey and infant sister Sally Sue, brothers Keith Graves, Jerry Peavy and Buddy Peavy, son-in-law Brian Smith and grandson Brian Smith Jr. as well as other family members. Farrell was a resident of Waggaman for over 50 years where he was a coach and mentor at the local playground. During his time as a coach, he influenced the lives of the youth around him leaving a profound impact that many still talk about to this day. While Farrell could present with a rough exterior at times, especially to protect those he loved, he was also one of the kindest souls you will ever know. Farrell was always there to answer a call when someone needed him. Whether he was telling jokes, playing dominoes and cards or loving on his grandchildren, Farrell left a smile on everyone's face. Memorial Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, family asks that donations be made in Farrell's memory to Notre Dame Hospice, 3330 N. Causeway Blvd., Metairie, La. 70002.
