Sherri Yahyavi Obituary

Sherri S Yahyavi

November 23, 1943 - September 14, 2024

Pebble Beach, California - It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Sherri Yahyavi, a beloved mother, sister, and friend, who left us peacefully on September 14, 2024. Born on November 23, 1943, in Tabriz, Iran, Sherri's adventurous spirit led her on a remarkable journey across the globe, ultimately finding her home in the United States. From a young age, Sherri was captivated by the world around her. Her journey began when she became an American exchange student in Portland, Oregon, where she discovered her love for American culture and formed lasting bonds with her exchange family. After returning to Iran and earning her degree in Linguistics from Tehran University, Sherri's heart remained set on returning to America, leading her to New York City in 1968 with her husband. As a proud American and global citizen, Sherri's career took her to the United Nations, where her passion for connecting with people flourished. Later, she made her mark in the real estate industry, beginning her journey in Berkeley, California, and continuing in Fresno, where she excelled for over forty years. Sherri was instrumental in significant projects, including the first land development for Walmart in California, and she co-founded Central California Investments, expanding her work into property management and investment. Beyond her professional achievements, Sherri was a vibrant soul who cherished spending time with her family and friends. She had a green thumb, nurturing beautiful gardens and finding peace in nature through walking and hiking along the coast. A master seamstress, Sherri could create exquisite garments from mere photographs. Cooking was her true Zen, as she delighted in preparing global dishes for her loved ones. Sherri's love extended deeply to her siblings, nieces, and nephews, creating a warm and loving family environment. Her spirit of adventure, generosity, and passion for life will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who knew her. Sherri is survived by her daughter, Lily Yahyavi; her siblings Manouchehr Chakoutahi, Jaleh Niamir, and Ladan Sanandaji; her American exchange siblings Diana Morey-Golightly and Arthur Morey; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, Saleh and Ozra Chakoutahi, and her American exchange parents, Art and Eileen Morey.

Memorial services will be held at a graveside service at El Carmelo Cemetery, 68 Asilomar Blvd, Pacific Grove, CA 93950, on Monday, October 7, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Sherri's spirit of adventure, kindness, and love will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

I met Sherri in the late 1980´s. We became close friends for a period of time and then somehow we lost track of one another.
Sherri was a beautiful lady, inside and out and we had some good times together.
I´m so sorry to hear of her passing and send condolences to her daughter Lily and other family members.
I will always fondly remember her.

My deepest sympathy to Lily and Sherri's other family members.

I worked with Sherri for years at London Properties where we became very good friends. She was very bright, competitive and passionate about her career in commercial real estate and property management, but in the end, she had a great heart! And always a beautiful smile.

Sherri was an amazing hostess and I enjoyed decorating her home for holidays and events and loved the wonderful food she prepared. I would pick kumquats for her that she used when making her fabulous rice.

Sherri will be missed by all who knew her.

Warm regards, Nancy Torosian Butler
