Betty Jane (Simcox) Johnson, 91, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on May 3, 2025, after a valiant battle with cancer. Born in Bristol, VA, she lived a remarkable life of selflessness, resilience, and love, leaving an enduring legacy in the hearts of her family and countless others.
Betty's journey took her from Virginia to Chicago, Florida, Atlanta, and back to Virginia, where she will be laid to rest with her parents. A woman of grace and strength, she devoted herself to raising four children, Robert, Randall, Karen, and Chris. Through life's challenges, Betty remained a beacon of kindness, never speaking ill of others and always prioritizing her family's wellbeing. Her mission was clear, to provide her children with a stable home, strong values, and opportunities for happiness; she succeeded beyond measure.
Betty's life was marked by curiosity and determination. She traveled the world, climbing to the top of the Eiffel Tower, marveling the pyramids of Egypt, walking the Great Wall of China, and exploring the cultures of Asia, Europe, and Africa, often alongside her daughter. Despite double hip surgery, failing eyesight, and cancer she faced challenges with unwavering gratitude and resilience, always cherishing her family and appreciating God's gifts.
Betty's love as a mother was profound and resolute. Her children were her priority, and her sacrifices ensured their success and happiness.
Betty is survived by her children; Robert Johnson and his wife Heather, Randall Johnson and his wife Lisa, Karen Johnson and Chris Johnson and his wife Corina; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her sister, Joann McReynolds. She now rests in heaven, free from pain, her eyesight and mobility restored and reunited with loved ones.
Betty's memory will live on in the thoughts, prayers, and hearts of those who knew her. The family expresses gratitude for her extraordinary life and the love she shared.
A graveside service will be held at High Point Cemetery, Bristol, VA. on Thursday May 8, 2025 at 2 p.m. with Chaplain Jim Tunnell officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Noonkester, Ryan Turner, Michael Todd Warren, Daryll Simcox, Mark Husmillo, Justin Noonkester and Poe Noonkester
