Kathleen Mulvaney Obituary

Kathleen Spartanburg - Mulvaney (Miller) Mulvaney Kathleen (Miller) Mulvaney, 82, died peacefully on Monday, September 23rd in Spartanburg, South Carolina, after her years-long journey with dementia.

Kathy was born in Minneapolis, graduated from St. Margaret's Academy in 1960, then attended the College of St. Benedict and the University of Minnesota. After marriage and several moves, she and her husband Mike, a homebuilder, settled down permanently in the warm climate of Charlotte, NC, where they raised their three children: Mick, Ted, and Kerry. Later, on a family vacation, Kathy and Mike fell in love with the even warmer weather of Key West, FL, and the island became their home-away-from-home for the next 40 years.

As a wife, Kathy was a loyal partner for close to 60 years. As a mom, she was her children's biggest fan and rarely missed any of their games, plays, concerts, speeches, or events. As a grandmother, she was right back to it, scheduling time and travel around her nine grandkids' busy lives.

In between all of her other roles, Kathy was singularly herself: ballet dancer, beauty queen, board member, bridge player, and even league bowler at Charlotte's Park Lanes. Add to the list: teacher, donor, best friend, aunt, arts collector, theatre lover, mimosa enthusiast, and movie buff. Walker. World Traveler. Fantasy Fester. The life of the party, she had an easy smile and understated elegance that put everyone at ease.

Kathy lived a fascinating life, joy-filled but certainly not free from grief and great loss. Her unique ability to balance resilience and grace in the face of hardship -- even until her final days -- is one of many legacies she leaves behind.

Mrs. Mulvaney is survived by her children Mick (Pam), Ted (Erin), and Kerry Ferguson (Mark); and grandchildren Caroline, Finnegan, James, Nathanial, Elizabeth, Caleb, Mirabelle, Beckett and Felicity, all who adored her. She was predeceased by her husband Mike, grandchild Grace, brother Jerry Miller, and a handful of her favorite friends.

The family wishes to thank Kathy's dedicated community of caregivers.

A memorial will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23rd in the Queens Hall Parlors, Queens University, Charlotte. A Key West event will take place this summer.

I am so saddened by the loss of your Mother and my dear friend. We were so fortunate to live in the era we did. We enjoyed life together, traveled together and our Fri nite dinners were special. I loved and admired your Mom and Dad immensely. Your Mother“s passing is truly an end of an era. I live with these wonderful memories now. And I am truly proud of Mick, Ted and Kerry and their accomplishments. Love to all. "Aunt" shirley. PS. Thank you Ted for the Xmas card with the family pics. I so enjoy seeing your beautiful family

Bill and I will always have the wonderful memories of traveling with Mike and Kathy - to Morocco and Australia! Kathy & I swam on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and in Marrakesh she wouldn't pay the exorbitant rates for the Mamunia's hotel laundry so we took a stretch limo to the laundromat!!! We were also the only girls to leave the confines of the hotel to meet the Arabs - which was dicey at the time!
They were both so proud of their children - u had great parents! We miss them
