George Parker Obituary

PARKER, George Grew A quirky pillar of goodness and virtue, passed away in his sleep on Monday, September 9, 2024, at 81 years old.

He grew up in Sherborn, MA, attending Charles River School and Brooks School before heading west to attend Lake Forest College, outside of Chicago. He met and married Elizabeth Donnelly, while living in New York City, marking the start of a loving partnership built on respect, support and good humor. They settled in Canton, MA, where they set roots in the community and raised a family.

George worked in commercial real estate and sales throughout the Boston area, but his passions were always elsewhere. He grew lush vegetable gardens, instilling in his children a love and appreciation for the Earth. Those vegetables often found their way into elaborate cooking projects, notable for sauce on the ceiling and an explosion of pots and pans. Reading was a constant, whether it was a book in his lap by a roaring fire, the newspaper on the kitchen table or a cozy story before bedtime, read aloud to his young children and grandchildren. Also, George always had a dog, a constant companion for long rambles through neighborhoods, woods and later, along Buzzards Bay, after he and Liz retired in Wareham, MA.

While old age took his wits, he will be remembered fondly and forever for his love of nature, good books and fine food, as well as his integrity, decency and gentle way. A beloved partner, father, grandfather, uncle, sibling and friend, George is missed by many, especially his wife; and their children, Emily, Adrienne and AJ; and their families. He was a good man.

In lieu of flowers, George would have wanted you to vote for the Democratic ticket.
