Erik Colón Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 11, 2024.
Erik Orlando Colón, an incredibly devoted son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and Tió, passed away after a short illness on June 7, 2024. Erik was the light of any room he was in. He was loved and loved deeply for every one of his 45 years and will be missed by all who knew him. Born October 3, 1978, in Farmington, Maine, he is survived by mother Susan Dearborn, father Jose Colón, sister Monica (Colón) Wilson, brother-in-law Daniel Wilson, nephew Alex (A) Wilson & niece Julia Wilson; step family - Chris Rouleau, wife Shelly Nolan (Audrey), Kate Downey (Mikey and Maryn), Liz Anderson, husband Gregg (Jake and Zach) & Diana Saavedra, husband Levi (Eva and Olivia). He was loved as a big brother by numerous cousins and friends. Erik is predeceased by his stepfather Paul Rouleau. Erik always had a head for numbers and dazzled his family by reading baseball statistics from a very young age. He graduated in 2001 from the University of Delaware and embarked on a career in the financial services industry. He worked for Ameriprise Financial Services for 20 years, served as a compliance officer, acted as a mentor to many, and was deeply committed to his fiduciary responsibilities and to serving his clients. One of Erik's great joys in life was his ability to help others - he was always there to problem solve and brainstorm at the drop of a hat. Being there for his family and friends was his highest priority, always putting others' needs ahead of his own. He excelled at planning and organizing - everything from financial plans to family vacations, he did them all with joy and gusto. When Erik was involved, things had a way of working out, and more than that, being FUN! Christmas was a special time for Erik, a joy that he shared with his mother and grandmother. He reveled in excessive decoration. There was no such thing as too much Christmas or too many Hallmark movies. Sharing these with family brought him delight year after year, especially as new generations came on the scene. Erik, a resident of Clinton, Connecticut, never did anything in half measures. Among his passions in life were the Yankees, New York Rangers, NYCFC, Man City, Dallas Cowboys, and the UCONN Huskies. Erik loved adventures, travel and visiting 26 baseball stadiums all across the United States. He never met a roller coaster he wouldn't try. A member of a travel-obsessed family, Erik visited 43 out of 50 states and 16 countries. He loved learning about his ancestry, regularly participating in the annual York Family Reunion, tracing his mother's lineage back to the Mayflower, and his father's family history to the Taíno Indians of Puerto Rico. There are no words to express how much Erik/ Tió will be missed by those who knew him and loved him. Calling hours will be held on Monday June 17th from 5 to 8 p.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St. Middletown. To share memories or express condolences online please visit www.biegafuneralhome.com. I met Erik in the parking lot of the Best Western in Canton NY in the summer of 2019. I believe he was hauling a boat from NY to Maine . I saw his Maine plates and a conversation ensued. I am from Topsham ME. I am also of Dearborn lineage and a Mayflower Society Member. He helped me obtain records I needed to obtain membership. We talked about baseball and the fact that I go to Cooperstown every year for business meetings. I have collected baseball annual hall of fame membership pens for him. If he has a family member that would them, please contact me. He was such an interesting person!!!

Monica, Tom and I are so sorry to hear of Erik's passing. There isn't a time when we saw him that he did not have a smile on his face in all the years we knew him. He was a good man and will be remembered as such. There are no words that I can say that will offer comfort. All our love. Lori & Tom Ranalli

Erik, I just found out you passed. You were one of the first upper-classmen I looked up to. I still remember the sound system you had in your maxima. It made me want to get one. You made me laugh when you wore bright pink gloves in wrestling matches. You always made things fun and were the life of the party. Thank you for your playful spirit. I hope we cross paths again.

I worked with Erik at Ameriprise a few years back. He did, indeed, light up the room when he arrived at our office. He shared with me his love of Puerto Rico and was so excited that we were planning a trip to visit the island. Covid delayed those plans and we are finally heading there this summer. I just mentioned to my family that I have to reach out to Eric to get a refresher on all the wonderful activities he raved about doing and recommended for us. I am so saddened to hear that Eric has passed. His excitement about things he loved was infectious. We will keep him in our thoughts while we are in PR this summer. Our deepest sympathies to his family in this time of loss.

I knew Erik from Clinton public schools, where we had several classes together over the years. Although now, I regret not attempting to have friendship with him outside of school. Erik was the nicest most genuine person I had the pleasure of being around in those schools. In a setting where most of the other people in the school were too worried about cliques and being with their groups. Erik was a shock to the system with his friendliness and open mindedness. He was a breath of fresh air. Oh and he was wicked smart too. I can’t believe he has passed and I want his close family and friends to know he was a very special person in this world. Bless him and bless you.
