Mary Eileen Kunkel, also known as Mare, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2024, at the age of 95 in Albion, California. Born on November 3, 1928, in Lakeside Park, Mary was a remarkable individual who left an indelible mark on the lives of her family, friends, and community members.

Mary was a devoted and caring person who always went above and beyond to help others. She opened her home and dedicated her time and energy to support those in need. Known for her wicked sense of humor, Mary brought joy and laughter to everyone she encountered. In addition to her generosity, Mary coached women's softball teams, starting in the late 1940s and continuing her passion in Mendocino. She was a true sports enthusiast.

Mary's love for her community extended beyond sports. She made a difference in the lives of veterans and shut-ins by visiting them and sharing her stories and cheer, brightening their days. She also had a deep appreciation for the beauty of Mendocino County and enjoyed driving around, taking in its picturesque landscapes.

Mary's ashes will be laid to rest at the Mendocino Hillcrest Cemetery in Mendocino, California, on February 25th, 2024. A ceremony will be held to honor her memory and celebrate her remarkable life.
