Bernice Stanek

October 29, 1932 - December 31, 2024

Bernice Elizabeth Kreul Stanek, 92, of Muscoda, died on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at University of Wisconsin Eastpark Medical Center in Madison. She was born on October 29, 1932, in Highland, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Kreul. She married Carl James Stanek in 1955, who preceded her in death in 2009. Bernice and Carl lived in several states during their marriage and returned to Muscoda upon retirement. Bernice was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She also volunteered at the local food bank and in community activities.

Bernice was known for her baking, especially her cinnamon rolls and poppyseed rolls. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing cards, doing jigsaw puzzles, watching the Chicago Cubs and travelling across the United States and Europe.

Bernice is survived by her twin brother, Bernard Kreul, of Madison along with his wife, Sharon. She is also survived by five of her children, Donna Stanek of Durham, NC, Ronald Stanek of Huntington, WV, Julie Stanek (Charles Lauber) of Fort Collins, CO, JoAn Stanek of Durham, NC, and John Stanek (Lindsay) of Durham, NC; her six grandchildren, Cara Lauber (John Gillam) of Thornton, CO, Jake Lauber of Denver, CO, Seth and Sara Williams of Durham, NC, and Everett and Calvin Stanek of Durham, NC. Additional survivors include sisters-in-law: Rose Kreul Hooks, Helen Stanek, Ann McGuire, Helen Stanek, Mary Lou Stanek and Dorothy (Richard) Hackl; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia; her parents and siblings Joseph Kreul, Irvin Kreul, Raymond Kreul, Norbert Kreul and Marcella Capener.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the Pratt Funeral Home, Muscoda, with burial to follow in St. John Nepomuc Cemetery, Castle Rock. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at the Pratt Funeral Home, Muscoda from 9:30 a.m. to the time of the service at 10:30 a.m. The family requests memorials in Bernice's name be directed to the Riverdale Food Pantry or the Muscoda Fire Department. The Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family with their arrangements.
