Joanne Smutny Obituary

Joanne Smutny

September 8, 1932 - March 20, 2025

Joanne Smutny passed away peacefully in Spokane, WA, on March 20, 2025, after a long illness. Born on September 8, 1932, Joanne was a life-long resident of Twin Falls, Idaho, where she created a legacy of love, hard work, and community spirit.

Joanne and her beloved husband, Alvin, shared a remarkable partnership, operating a dairy farm southeast of Twin Falls for fifty-five years. While Alvin managed the outdoor operations, Joanne ran the office, ensuring the farm thrived. Together, they raised three sons. Joanne is survived by her husband, Alvin, and their three sons: Greg of Cambridge, MA; Mark (Barbara Anderson) of Bothell, WA; and Jeff (Cynthia Brandon) of Newman Lake, WA.

A life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church of Twin Falls, Joanne served her faith community as a Sunday school teacher, youth advisor, deacon, and ruling elder. Her commitment to her values extended beyond the church as she actively participated in the Shamrock Club and served as secretary of the Idaho Holstein Association.

Joanne found immense joy in the natural beauty of Idaho. Her mornings began with the sight of the sunrise over Mount Harrison, a moment she treasured deeply with her husband. She also held a special affection for the rugged grandeur of the Sawtooth Mountains. Joanne's love for family extended to her two daughters-in law, three grandsons and four great-granddaughters.

A service for close friends and family will be held at Riverview Terrace in Spokane to honor Joanne's life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Memorial Fund of the First Presbyterian Church of Twin Falls.

Alvin and family,
I am sorry for your loss. Jo was such a lovely person and you all were such treasured neighbors for most of my life!

I also remember with thankfulness, the time my daughter, Jimmi, rolled our car 1/4 mile north of your house and how you helped her with the shock from the crash until we were able to arrive from town.

It is so good to have the confidence of knowing that Jo is with the Lord, having made her life-choice early in life, and continuing her relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ.

Peace be with you, in the Name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost. Amen.
