Pamela Gutman Obituary

Pamela Gutman

January 9, 1947 - April 2, 2025

Longs , South Carolina - Pamela "Pam" (Askins) Gutman, age 78, passed away peacefully in her home on April 2, 2025, at 3:17 p.m., surrounded by her loved ones. She was a devoted wife, Godmother, sister, aunt, stepmother, and friend, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and an unwavering passion for animals.

Pam was preceded in death by her beloved husband and soulmate, Raymond "Ray" Gutman; her mother, Leota Askins; and her brother, Tommy "T.J." Askins. She is survived by her cherished goddaughter Kristie Duff, her sister-in-law Marilyn (TJ) Askins, and nephews John (Katie) Askins, Jason (Serena Oehlers) Askins, and Justin (Alicia) Askins. Pam is also survived by nieces Jessica Askins and Jenelle (JR) Niese, as well as her companion Lenny; her sister-in-law Theresa Camper (Dave Welch), her brother-in-law Bill (Marilyn) Gutman; her step-children Sheila (Joe) Distel, Gwen (Patrick) Walsh, and Jeff (Amy) Gutman.

Pam will be lovingly remembered by her furry family-her dachshund, Cali, and rescue dog, Honey, who brought joy to her life daily. She is now reunited with her beloved dachshunds Nikki, Missy, Buffy, and rescue dog Honey Bear.

Born and raised in Lima, Ohio, Pam was a hardworking woman with an indomitable spirit. From delivering papers as a young girl to a long career in various fields, including the refinery and as a volunteer at Lima Memorial Hospital, Pam's work ethic and dedication were unmatched. She was a familiar and loved face at McLeod "Seacoast" Hospital, and her kindness and generosity touched many lives.

In 1997, Pam moved to Longs, SC, near Myrtle Beach, to enjoy her well-earned retirement with Ray. She embraced her new life with joy, often starting her mornings with a walk with her dogs or a ride on her bike. Pam found peace in sitting on her patio, watching the golfers and listening to the sounds of the world around her. She loved the beach, collecting seashells, and spending time in the sun.

Pam was a fierce and loyal Ohio State Buckeyes fan, always making time to watch the games, and she enjoyed the simplicity of life with the ones she loved. Her heart was as big as her personality, filled with a feistiness that made her unforgettable and a generosity that made her a friend to all who knew her.

Above all, Pam's love for animals and her dedication to animal rescue were a core part of who she was. She gave so much of herself to help those who couldn't speak for themselves. Her devotion to animals and her kind, loving spirit will continue to live on in all the lives she touched.

Pam was truly beautiful inside and out, and her presence will be sorely missed. Her family and friends will forever remember her as a woman with an unmatched heart and a spirit that will never be forgotten. Pam's family would like to thank the many friends and caregivers who offered support during her final days. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to any local animal rescue organizations or the Dementia & Alzheimer's foundations:

Condolences to the family and friends of Pam. I worked for Pam´s brother T.J. In the late 70´s and under her guidance, did several projects. Pam was kind and open-minded. I appreciated her love of family, and loyalty to them. Pam will be remembered for her sense of humor, smile and focus when it came to a task. Rest in eternal peace, Pam.
