Anne Bchakjian, 93, wife, mother, and grandmother peacefully passed away on January 1, 2025.
Anne was the daughter of late Armen and Siran and the younger sister of Rose. Born in NYC and raised in the Bronx, Anne attended Hunter College, majoring in Psychology and Education. Anne married Jack Chekemian until his untimely death and then married Maurice Bchakjian several years later.
Anne was a 3rd grade teacher for the Clifton Public School system for 38 years. She was awarded the "Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching", and truly enjoyed working with children. During her teaching career she acquired many life long friendships with her professional colleagues and through out her retirement she attended monthly luncheons with the retired personnel from her school community.
Anne was a member of St. Leon Armenian Church and was an active member of the St. Leon Women's Guild. She served as Treasurer for a time and then headed the Sunshine Committee. She was a life long supporter of her church and volunteered for preparation and fund raising events annually. Anne was very proud of her church and her Armenian heritage.
During her early retirement years, Anne volunteered at Passaic General Hospital on a weekly basis. Later in retirement, she acquired new friends and neighbors when she downsized and re-located to a condominium community. She participated in many clubs and enjoyed all of the social activities offered. Anne was an ambassador for the community Club House for many years.
Anne was a true people person, she loved being with her family and socializing with her many friends from all aspects of her life on a regular basis. She was very thoughtful, generous, supportive and caring.
Anne is survived by her two daughters, Lisa Tutunjian, and Maro Bchakjian, son-in law Armen (Ron) Tutunjian, Nick Mina, a grandson Michael Tutunjian, his wife Joelle, many nieces and nephews and their families.
Viewing and religious service will be held at St. Leon Armenian Church on Thursday, January 9th, 2025. Viewing from 11:30 AM to 12:00. Religious services to follow at 12:00 Noon. Burial at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Paterson, New Jersey. Funeral arrangements provided by William G. Basralian Funeral Home in
