Brenda Brooks Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 22, 2024.
Brenda Yvonne Brooks, a woman of unwavering faith and a heart full of love, peacefully passed into eternal rest at the age of 64 on Sunday, October 13, 2024, in Houston, Texas. She was born on October 16, 1959, in Victoria, Texas, to Morris Smith and Irene Barefield. From an early age, Brenda's life was deeply rooted in her Christian faith, having grown up in the nurturing community of Greater Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Victoria. Her dedication to the Lord never wavered, and she lived every day with a heart devoted to serving God and others.
Brenda attended Victoria College and found her life's calling in early childhood education, where she worked passionately for over 30 years. She had an extraordinary ability to connect with young minds, guiding them with patience, love, and care. Her warm, nurturing spirit touched countless lives.
Brenda was a gifted musician who used her God-given talents to uplift others. Whether playing the piano or singing praises, she glorified the Lord with every note all throughout Southwest Texas. Her music was a true expression of her soul, and through it, she spread a message of hope, love, and salvation that resonated deeply with all who heard her. She was an active member of Elion Zion Baptist Church in Rosharon, Texas, under the leadership of Rev. Ronnie D. Thomas, Sr., where she continued to bless the congregation with her voice and piano playing.
Her life was filled with joy, humor, and a profound sense of compassion. Brenda had a gentle and kind spirit, but she also possessed a strong, unwavering will. She fought life's battles with grace and determination, all while keeping her contagious laugh and generous sense of humor. An avid Dallas Cowboys fan, Brenda loved to spend her time outdoors fishing, barbecuing, and sharing laughter over dominoes and card games with friends and family. She was a woman who knew how to "cut a rug" and enjoyed the simple pleasures in life.
Her favorite scripture, Psalm 103, reflected the way she lived her life-blessing the Lord with all that was within her. Just as the Psalm speaks of God's mercy, compassion, and love, Brenda embodied these virtues in her daily walk, sharing kindness and helping those in need.
Above all, Brenda loved her family. Her children, Sedrick, Matthew, and Michele, were the light of her life, and she took immense pride in being their mother. She cherished her granddaughter, Gabryelle, and shared with her the same love and wisdom that guided her throughout her own life.
Brenda is survived by her loving mother, Irene Barefield; her sons, Sedrick Brown and Matthew Brown; her daughter, Michele Brown; her granddaughter, Gabryelle Gonzales; and her brothers, John Barefield, Alonzo Smith, and Marvin Williams. She is preceded in death by her father, Morris Smith; her stepmother, Lillie B. Smith; and her beloved sister, Ora Garley.
Brenda's life was a testament to her faith, resilience, and love for others. She will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Mission Valley Cemetery.
