Brian T. Talt October 16, 1960 – September 22, 2024
Brian T. Talt of Cornwall on Hudson passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 22, 2024 with his family by his side. Brian was born on October 16, 1960 in New Rochelle, New York to George M. Talt and Marjorie A. (nee Murphy) Talt and was one of ten children.
Brian was a decorated Navy man. He retired from the United States Navy as an ETC, Chief Petty Officer in 2001 after 23 years of service having been awarded five Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals among many others. His time in the Navy included two deployments to combat zones during the Persian Gulf War (first on the USS Midway for Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield and then on the USS Dubuque for Operation Desert Thunder/Desert Fox/Southern Watch), where he was responsible for maintaining the combat systems of both ships and training the members of the Combat Systems Training Team.
Aside from his military service, Brian was a loving, caring and kind person. He welcomed everyone he met with warmth and a smile. He was always happy and full of laughter, especially when he was surrounded by his family and friends. Whether it was at a family barbeque, playing cards at the kitchen table with his brothers, weekly dates with his wife (even after 30+ years of marriage), or sitting with his two daughters at the dining room table playing a 4-hour long game of Monopoly.
In addition to loving his family and friends, Brian loved Diet Coke (always in a big plastic cup with ice); cheeseburgers (because no matter where he traveled during his time in the Navy he could always get a cheeseburger); his Navy ships and Veteran hats; and spending time at the Donahue Memorial Park on the Hudson River.
He is survived by his wife, Tonika Talt; his two daughters, Margaret (Maggie) Talt and Irene Talt; his dog, Kona; his siblings, Martin Talt, Stephen Talt, Michael Talt (Maryann Talt), Marjorie Worley (James Worley), George Talt (Francine Talt), Robert Talt (Linda Talt), Kristine Lemmis (James Lemmis), and Nancy LaPietra (Anthony LaPietra); his sister-in-law, Kanoa von Bernewitz (Eric von Bernewitz); his mother-in-law, Akiko Kuroi; and his many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, George M. Talt; his mother, Marjorie A. Talt; and his brother, Kevin Talt.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and James J. Peters Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center for their kindness and commitment to Brian and all of the veterans they treat and care for on a daily basis.
A funeral mass is scheduled for Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 10:30 am at Blessed Sacrament Church in New Rochelle, New York. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Brian's memory to: Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
