Denis Sterner Obituary

Denis Eugene Sterner, born in Birdsboro, PA, on November 16, 1936, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 17, 2025, following a brief hospice stay at the Dove House in Westminster, MD.
Denis was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew and Helen Sterner; siblings, Mark Sterner, Annetta Boland, and David Sterner; his first wife of 42 years, Nancy Harvath-Sterner; his second wife, Thyra Wahlne-Sterner.
He is survived by his children, Bonnie Pilat, Duane Sterner, and Glenn Sterner, along with 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Denis dedicated his life to being a contractor, building homes in Wyomissing, PA – including his own home – as well as several churches and schools. His work extended across Pittsburgh, PA; New Jersey; and Florida, where he lived for over 20 years until Nancy's passing in January 2000. A few years later, after marrying Thyra, Denis moved to Burtonsville, MD. There he worked for 10 years as a subcontractor for the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, supervising and performing various maintenance projects. Upon retiring, Denis and Thyra relocated to Georgetown, DE, where he built a workshop that became his haven for numerous creative projects.
Throughout his life, Denis enjoyed boating, golfing, bowling, and spending time with family and friends while camping. Ever the craftsman, he built his own camper and canoe, blending his skills with his hobbies.
His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and countless others whose lived he touched.
A graveside service and burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Fairview Cemetery, Shillington, for close friends and family. The Klee Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., Shillington, is assisting the Sterner family. www.kleefuneralhome.com
