Donald Norris Funnell, Jr., a cherished family man, esteemed colleague, and devoted Star Trek enthusiast, passed away at 4:26pm on Thursday, October 3, 2024, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Born on February 24, 1960, in Mishawaka, Donald's journey through life was marked by love, dedication, and a remarkable ability to bring joy to those around him.
Donald was preceded in death by his father, Donald Funnell Sr.; his mother, Mary Lou (Hoffman) Phillips Funnell; and his brother, Charles Bradshaw.
His legacy of love and laughter lives on through his beloved wife, Katrina (McClain) Funnell, whom he married on December 9, 2011. Together, they shared a life full of happiness and mutual support.
Donald is survived by his children, Heather (TJ) Mitchell, Yvonne, Tristan (Stephine) Funnell, and Donald Funnell, III; step-children, Aja Mason, Osiris Rish, Thaddeus Rish, and Leonidas Rish; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sisters, Darlene (Dean) Whidup, Debbie Eyestone, and Ruth Funnell.
Professionally, Donald dedicated many years to the RV business, where his hard work, reliability, and amiable nature earned him the respect and friendship of his colleagues. His commitment to his work was paralleled only by his passion for his hobbies.
An artist at heart, Donald spent countless hours creating customized action figures, each piece a testament to his creativity and attention to detail. His love for Star Trek was more than a pastime; it was a universe he joyfully explored, both through his collection and his engagement with Star Trek online communities.
Donald's life was a tapestry woven with the threads of his interests, his work, and most importantly, the relationships he nurtured throughout his years. His presence was a source of stability and happiness for his family, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Palmer Funeral Home - River Park Chapel is honored to assist the Funnell family during this time. There will be no services at this time, but Donald's life will be remembered in a manner that honors the warmth and light he brought into this world.
As we bid farewell to Donald Norris Funnell, Jr., we do so with gratitude for the time we shared with him and the countless ways he enriched our lives. His story does not end here, for it continues in the hearts of those he loved and the many lives he touched. May he rest in peace, knowing that his legacy will endure through the love and laughter he left behind.
