Donna Kay Chisum Fountain Obituary

Donna Kay Chisum Fountain, age 77, of the Rose Hill community in Andalusia, AL, passed away on May 16, 2025, at her daughter's residence in Gulf Breeze, FL.
Donna was born on February 25, 1948, and was primarily raised by her grandparents, Emoch Huey Chisum and Mary Belle Moore Chisum. Emoch's parents were Daniel T Chisum and Sarah Caroline Odom Chisum. Mary Bell Moore's parents were Jason "Jesse" Watson Moore and Mary Elizabeth Ealum.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Willie Lee "Bill" Chisum, and Mildred Alene Kilpatrick Mathews; her grandparents, Emoch Huey Chisum and Mary Belle Moore Chisum; her spouses, Harold Laverne Fountain, Jr. of Washington, Iowa, and Billy Ray Owens of Luverne, AL, a brother, Larry Ray Chisum of Brewton, AL.
She is survived by her daughters, Teresa Mae Chisum Ellison (Travis) of Gulf Breeze, FL, and Wendy Willene Fountain of Gantt, AL; her son, Christopher Aseland Fountain (Brandy) of Birmingham, AL; a brother, Terry Lee Chisum of Brewton, AL; and two sisters, June Smith of El Dorado Hills, CA, and Linda White of Salem, OR; six grandchildren, Rebel Leigh Fountain, John Forrest Ellison (Megan), William Isaac Fountain (Emily), Brynn "Azelonde" Donlon (Riley), Greyson Dakota Fountain, Ryker Aiden Fountain; six great-grandchildren, Olivia Blake Donlon, Henry Aslan Ellison, Lincoln Isaac Fountain, Troy Alexander Ellison, Benjamin Sterling Ellison, Adeline Blair Fountain.
Donna graduated from Straughn High School in 1966. She attended Lurleen B. Wallace Community College, when she was 43 years old and obtained her associate's degree. She was selected to become a member of the National Honor Society and was recognized as a member of "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges," an honor bestowed upon students who have demonstrated academic excellence. She also attended Troy University where she graduated with honors and obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in English.
Donna was an avid reader and was interested in many things. She loved jigsaw puzzles, particularly Charles Wysocki, and loved crossword puzzles. She loved Code Words, the Woodoku app on her phone, interesting stories about people, shows and videos about renovations and "fixer uppers." She loved genealogy and researching family history. She loved to look through old newspapers. She loved and was so proud of her kids, grandchildren, and her great grandchildren. She loved her grandpa and spoke of him often. She was a "Swiftie," a big Taylor Swift fan. She loved cherry vanilla ice cream with a little Pepsi poured on top, sherbet, Red Hots, Gobstoppers candy, fried catfish from Winn-Dixie that Travis found for her, icy pops, coffee, turnip and mustard greens with cornbread, field peas, sweet potato pie, etc.
Her favorite color was red, and even though she didn't care much for clothes and shoes, she had great taste and an eye for what looked good. She was a very strong woman who raised 3 kids by herself. She took in strays – both people and cats, and had 7 cats that she loved.
The family is holding a private graveside service at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Andalusia, AL, on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 2 pm. Pallbearers are: Christopher Aseland Fountain, William Isaac Fountain, Terry Lee Chisum, Mark "Travis" Ellison, John Forrest Ellison, and Riley Thomas Donlon.
