BAXTER CHAPEL-Elgie Lee Dennis, Sr. 77 of Baxter, was born February 5, 1948 in Cookeville, TN, he passed away at his home in Baxter on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.
He was a retired welder with Cookeville Industries with over 20 years of service. He enjoyed raising game fowl, fishing, ginseng hunting and going to estate sales.
He leaves behind daughters Brenda (Eddie) Greenwood and Belinda Dennis all of Baxter, son Elgie Dennis, Jr. of Baxter, sister Pauline Richardson of Sparta, grandchildren: Brittany Rodgers, Micah DeGroat, Matthew DeGroat, Tayler (Colby) Roberts, Abby (Winston) Cannon, Logan Greenwood, great grandchildren: Aleeia Rodgers, Shaylee Rodgers and Brendan Greenwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jordan and Annie Bell Adams Dennis; his wife, Ruth Young Dennis on September 29, 2011; a sister, Dean Caruthers and a brother Frank Dennis.
A funeral service for Elgie will be Thursday, April 10 at 1 PM at the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home, 532 4th Avenue South, Baxter, TN. The family will receive friends from 11 AM until service time. Interment will follow in Young Cemetery in the Center Grove Community in Jackson County, TN.
Bro. Jerry Blair will officiate. family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
