Elizabeth "Betty" Swett Grinnell passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Pen Bay Hospital in Rockport, Maine. She was born in Mexico, Maine on October 21, 1924, to the late Fred and Hazel Swett.
Betty graduated from Washington High School. She was married to the late Jim Grinnell, and they made their lifelong home in Washington, Maine. She was employed with the US Postal Service for many years until her retirement. She continued to live in their home after Jim passed away in 2014. She lived there until she was 99 years old and due to failing health, she moved to Crawford Commons Assisted Living in Union, Maine. She loved the residents and staff there and they loved her. She turned 100 years old in October of 2024 and was given a beautiful birthday party by the staff, with lots of family and friends in attendance.
Betty is survived by her son, Grevis Grinnell and wife, Lynn of Hope Mills, NC. Granddaughter, Jennifer Atwell, husband Josh and great grandson, Jameson Atwell, all of Oak Ridge, NC. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Crawford Commons for the exceptional care and love that was given to her. Also, a special thank you to Alan and Jeanette McMunn and Don and Liz Grinnell for always helping to take good care of her.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Hall Funeral Home of Waldoboro. To share a condolence or memory with the Grinnell family, visit Betty's Book of Memories at www.hallfuneralhomes.com.
